Elatostema cuneatum Wight, Icon. Pl. Ind. Orient. 6: t. 2094, f. 3 1853. (Syn: Elatostema approximatum Wedd.; Elatostema densiflorum Franch. & Sav.; Elatostema densiflorum Franch. & A. Sav.; Elatostema nipponicum Makino [Invalid]; Elatostema webbianum Wedd.); Erect, simple, annual herbs; stems 3-angular, short- hairy towards the apex. Leaves subsessile, accrescent upwardly, often with a smallest opposite leaf, 0.7-4 x 0.5-2 cm, falcate-cuneate to obovate, with a narrowed, entire base, obtuse or acute, crenate-serrate in the upper part, ciliate, glabrous or thinly hairy, with linear cystoliths; stipules minute, ovate, acute. Male flowers: heads in the axils of upper leaves; pedicels 0.15-0.18 cm long. Perianth- segments ovate, obtuse, glabrous, 0.05-0.07 cm long. Stamens 4; filaments 0.08 cm long. Female flowers: heads 0.3-0.6 cm across, with a few female flowers in the centre; involucral bracts 2-4; outer ones ovate, acuminate; inner ones ovate-oblong, rounded, ciliate; bracteoles spathulate, 0.2 cm long. Perianth with a 3-4-dentate mouth. Achenes reddish brown, ovoid-ellipsoid, 0.04-0.05 cm long. Lecanthus peduncularis and Utricularia striatula The first plant looks like a species of Elatostema [possibly E.cuneatum] to me. Unfortunately cannot find the link to my photographs of this in the archives of this group. Perhaps ... could oblige. you may well be right. I saw lots of Lecanthus at the weekend at Matheran and didn't look closely to see the difference here. Managed to find the link. This was identified by ... Google Groups Thanks, ..., yes, that is the same plant. I had earlier seen these in Coorg and Chikamagalur (Karnataka) but both the times I only got blurry shots.
