Attaching an image of a honey bee on thge flower of Tropaeolum minima (NASTURTIUM).
So far we have postings only of Tropaeolum majus & Tecomella undulata
Tropaeolum minimum Miersis a synonym of Tropaeolum brachyceras Hook. & Arn. as per The Plant List.
As per literature Tropaeolum majus is tall or CLIMBING NASTURTIUM. The image is of a plant which does not fit into this description. But it fits into the description of Tropaeolum minor.
Thanks, ...,
There is no such name as Tropaeolum minor as per The Plant List & GRIN etc.
I find one as Tropaeolum minus L. Is it you are talking about ?
I referred K S Gopalaswamienger's COMPLETE GARDENING IN INDIA. He states,
"Tropaeolum minor is the DWARF NASTURTIUM. It is very hardy, popular, effective bedding annual, growing 20-30 cm high with roundish attractive leaves and bearing very brightly coloured large flowers in great profusion throughout the season,"
Thanks, ...
From one of the link I found on net on Tropaeolum minor states as below:
"This species (Tropaeolum majus L.) comes from South America. However it does not grow in the wild, only being reported from cultivated and naturalised populations. It is thought to be a hybrid between Tropaeolum ferreyrae and Tropaeolum minor, both of which are native to the Andes region in western South America (i.e. Ecuador and Peru)."
Pl. see more details with pictures at this link.
May be details at the following will solve the issue:

Tropaeolum majus 'Alaska'
cultivar of Garden Nasturtium with variegated leaves
Photographed from Delhi University Flower Show.
wonderful. Nasturstium is one of the edible flowers much loved.
donot know about this variegated leaf though... how was it developed. if GMO with some virus segment to make the white streaks.. not advisable to eat at at all. because safety studies are lacking for all such GMO plants. but the native Nasturstium makes a nice salad green and flowers nice pakoras.

can you throw some light on the process that makes leaves variegated?
