Please, I hate to always ask for more information, but your post says Nov 18th; was that the date you saw the plant in bloom? or the date you edited/uploaded the image? Camellia, depending on which one can bloom anywhere from September to April. It could well be a C. sinensis. Camellia sasanqua blooms September to January in Atlanta and has either single flowers as in your images, but can also have double flowers. Did you mention the size of the blooms? Were you able to get close enough to detect the scent? Did you take photos of the back of the leaves? Thanks, and again, sorry for too many questions. Another to check is Camellia oleifera which is grown as an ornamental here. Thanks. Thanks for your interest shown in my post. The pictures were taken on 21st October. No I could not get close enough to detect the scent. No problem, questions are always welcome! The garden's Planthotline has suggested Camellia sasanqua 'Hannah Jamin' ..., if it is Camellia sasanqua 'Hannah Jamin' it would have a pink tinge on the outermost part of the petals. Perhaps I am not seeing the image correctly; did any of your images show pink edges? Thank you. This was the id given by a Master Gardener. The flowers in my pictures were pure white. To me they look more like Camellia sasanqua 'Setsugekka'. May be Camellia sinensis Thanks for the id. I too had suggested Camellia sinensis. If this has not already been identified, please look at Camellia sinensis var. assamica. To me also appears close to images and details at Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze Camellia sinensis from Tea Gardens, Ooty, 29-12-2007. References: |
