I have updated eFI (efloraofindia) page on Tamarix Attempts have been made to incorporate most of the species available in India & nearby areas with details & keys directly or through links as far as possible. It’s quite possible that there may be some discrepancy in the accepted names & synonyms taken from other links. Species discussed so far in efloraofindia are given at the bottom of the page in the form of links against Subpages. On clicking them one can see all the details. If someone can provide complete list of Indian species with source references it will be wonderful. Any comments/ corrections are welcome. Further updated eFI (efloraofindia) page on Tamarix Thank you for the update. I came across another variety in Tamarix Species: TAMARIX TETRANDA ERECT (Tamarix TE): Which can be seen on the road sides and the dividers in New Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Jaipur. It goes erect beyond 45 feet within two years and even the branches grow in erect position in 30 degrees angle to the main trunk. The trunk attains a girth up to 18 inches within two years of plantation. This offers about 50 MT of biomass per acre per annum. When it is harvested, gets tillers again and need not be up rooted for about 15 years and one can enjoy the annual harvest for biomass purposes. The wood is more suitable for making match sticks compared to the other species. Though this variety has its origin from the deserts of Thar, it has gone to Israel ages ago and even there it was not given attention and only a few trees are visible even in Israel now. |
