Astilbe japonica is perennial herb with 2-3-ternate leaves with ovate-lanceolate serrate leaflets and open panicle inflorescence, spathulate broad petals twice as long as sepals.
Cultivar 'Rheinland' has clear pink flowers appearing on upright, reddish stems
