The plant is definitely Atalantia monophylla (L.) Correa. The key character for A. monophylla of calyx irregularly lobed and split to the base on one side can not be seen in the picture. Flowers are not seen crowded in axillary fascicles, they are in racemes. Leaves are not bright green. I hence feel that the plant (with the limited info available) can be said to be A. racemosa Wight. I have been searching for A. monophylla in W. ghats for last several years but have not found one as yet. I would be keen to see myself if some one can show. I have seen some Atalantia monophylla in the southern part of Western Ghats. i.e. areas closer to Nilgiris. The locations were relatively mid-altitudes.
All species of Atalantia except A. missionis have emarginate or retuse leaves. In racemosa and monophylla the filaments are fused to form a tube or a cup as seen the picture. However monophylla has much shorter cymes and not as long as seen here in the posted picture. Therefore this one should be A. racemosa. I am attaching my pictures of what I have identified as A. monophylla from wet evergreen forests close to Karnataka- Kerala border. Also attaching another species of Atalantia which I photographed in a dry scrub habitat near Kollegal. This one has pubescent inflorescence and petioles. Cant identify what it is. Looks like Atalantia racemosa! It is Atalatia racemoca, because the lateral veins are prominent here As I already told there will be variations in petal colour. It also represents the same species.

What I find here. .....It was a big tree. Filaments are united into a tube. Calyx divided regularly in 4-5 lobes. Taking this as Atalantia racemosa Wight ex Hook. as per keys and details herein and as per other observations from the area. Came across this tree at Matheran (Sunset pt.) (14-11-2009). Flowers were Fragrant. Is this Canthium Sp. (Rubiaceae family)?? It is Atalantia racemosa Marathi name is Makadlimbu You can note that stamens are 8 and the filaments are flattened and almost fused together which leads to Rutaceae. Rubiaceae would have stamens as many as the corolla lobes and attached to the lobes. This is Atalantia racemosa or Makadlimbu in Marathi. The citrous smell of leaves could also have given the clue on ID. To me it appears like some citron. It is clearly a member of Rutaceae and not Rubiaceae (where stamen number equals petals and filaments are not dilated). Citrus has stamens 4+ times the number of petals, whereas Atlantia has twice the number of petals. Here we can count 4 petals and 8 stamens in several flowers. Obviously … are justified in identifying it as Atalantia racemosa. Whereas we are sure the plant belongs to genus Atalantia, please make sure it is A. racemosa. Another species A. malabarica (Rafin.) Tanaka (syn: A. monophylla Correa) also grows in the same general area. It has longer pedicels (8-12 mm), 4 petals, 8 stamens, fls in corymbs. A. racemosa has shorter pedicels, fls in up to 8 cm long racemes, 3-4 calyx lobes. To me pedicels look longer, and inflorescence more of a corymb, besides 4 petals and 8 stamens. Won't it be better identified as A. malabarica?. I have no field experience of this genus and am commenting solely based on literature information. PS: I don't know wherefrom this no reply mail crept into the thread. I find the filaments are connate in photograph. They are free in A. racemosa. Could it be A. monophylla (syn or syn of A. malabarica). I too think it represents Atalantia monophyla This is Atalantia monophylla of Rutaceae.
