Shooting trip to Morni-Wedlandia heynei: This plant was photographed from Morni Hills on 10th April, 2011
during our recent trip to that area. I am uploading this specially to seek my apologies from ... On my way back, I recalled the name of this small tree abundant in the area.
The tree is actually Wendlandia heynei syn. Rondeletia heynei, Rondeletia exserta, Wendlandia exserta from Rubiaceae

Wendlandia heynei is a more recent name suggested by Santapau and Merchant in 1962 for a species known in older Indian Floras under the name W. exserta DC.

The Plant is distributed in subhimalayan tract from Pakistan, Kashmir, Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, Nepal, Sikkim, ascending to 1200 m. It is also met in Central India, Orissa, Northern Concan  and Decan hills, introduced elsewhere.

- commonly known as: tilki • Assamese: কদম kadam • Bengali: mimri, tilki • Gujarati: તિલ til • Hindi: तिलक tilak • Marathi: तीळ til • Punjabi: ਪਨਸੀਰਾ pansira • Sanskrit: तिलकः tilakah • Tamil: கதம்பம் katampam • Telugu: తెల్లపూచు tellapucu      ... about an year back, had found this species (most probably planted) in a village near base of Ratangad - Kalsubai range (on Bhandardhara side). Thus there is a chance finding it in Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife
Sanctuary.
Attached are some photos of that sighting.

clicked from- Chandigarh near sukhna lake, total two trees in that area
time of shoot-10:30 am
bright sunny, temperature ~ 33 degree C max. 19 degree C min
Size-medium sized tree
canopy not so prominent rather very thin and without any particular shape
bark deeply fissured and almost zig-zags along the trunk
leaves none complete, either dried or torn
young leaves intact and hairy
flowers white, very mildly fragrant (sweet fragrance)
flowers bracted and whole of the inflorescence hairy or with a felt like coating
these days tree is in full bloom and from a distance only thing that can be seen is flowers
this seems to be the same tree we are discussing for a few days. This is Wendlandia heynei most probably, the only unusual thing that appears to me are leaves, if they are pubescent and silvery beneath, then it is okay.

Wendlandia heynei (Schult.) Santapau & Merchant
syn:  Wendlandia exserta (Roxb.) DC
Uploaded earlier from Morni, this tree dominates the lower slopes of Dalhousie looking very beautiful with bunches of white flowers. Photographed from Badhani on way to Dalhousie.
very nice
what time of the year does it flower?
April early to late depending on altitude lingering into early May at higher altitudes.
Recently I had posted one Wendlandia from Western ghats.
Can you elaborate on the nature of leaves here?
As far as I know the leaves are whorled at apex of branches in W. thyrsoidea whereas it is not so in W. heynei
The crucial difference ... is opposite leaves in W. heynei as against 3 in a whorl in W. thyrsoides.
Ok. Please have a look at my post later.

Anacardiaceae member ?
This is Wendlandia again
It is a member of Rubiaceae; opp-phyllotaxy, interpetiolar stipules; it may belong to the genus- Wendlandia
Confusion about elevation.

I think in another thread of yours, ... stated that it grows at such altitudes as per Flora Similensis. Correct me if I am wrong.
