Rubiaceae week:: Ochreinauclea missionis_Pooyamkutty
:
Inflorescence picture of Ochreinauclea missionis Rubiaceae family.
Taken on March 2011 from Pooyamkutty in central Kerala.
Height about 6m well within the river bed of Periyar river.
This is Excellent shot.
.. a shot larger than boundary OR sixer ! Was not aware of this genus. Many thanks for sharing.
No words for photography.
I would love to call this as a tennis ball flower/inflorescence!
Beautiful shot, ...! Thanks for sharing this endemic and Red Listed plant. I remember seeing this tree in Kulamavu MPCA, KL.
I was not known that this is a red listed plant. Here in Pooyamkutty it is quite common and Tribals use to collect the branches for firewood.
The flower picture I uploaded was taken in the last year. I haven't seen flowers this year yet.
I am uploading pictures of leaves and the habit of 2 trees. During monsoon half of the tree trunk would be under water as it grows right in the river bed.
I attach the habitat where it grows.

Neolamarckia cadamba (Roxb.) Bosser, wild tree from Cannanur area of Kerala
This does not look like Kadam [Neolamarckia cadamba] to me. Please check. Will send my photographs of this later if required.
Some of my photographs of Neolamarckia cadamba for comparison. Attachments (4).
This should be Ochreinauclea missionis - a monotypic, endemic, and Red Listed species.
Thank you ..., I had the doubt about the identity.
