Fruits and vegetables: Apples from Leh: Apples from Leh, Ladhakh.
Pics taken in September 2009.
-  Here is the flower photo of Apple from Manali.
- Here is a photo of the apple from Srinagar, Kashmir.
- we had a delicious visit to Kashmir. There was plenty of dry fruits like Walnuts,  Almonds, Cherries, watermelons and Apricots.  There was a cherry tree growing at the garden of our hotel.  We bought some
Kashmiri saffron and shilajit from Srinagar. Unfortunately there was very little good quality apples as we went there in June and it was not the apple season.
- Yes you would find good apples September onwards. The first American delicious come in July-August.

Rosaceae Week: An acclimatised Apple from Bengaluru 04OctAR02:  Apple with green skin
Bengaluru

Private Garden
Glad to know that apples also can be grown in Bangaluru climate.
But, no more space in Bengaluru for Apple to grow.
All space have been concreted.
Really real estate instead of Apple/coffee/tea/grape estate.
Where are the vineyards that Bengaluru had just 10 years back?

Is Malus the genus of all apples?
I was also wondering if Malus is the genus of all apples.
The Term "Malus and Bonus" we here so often, which indicatescontractual incentive and sanction system between parties. Why then Malus (Penalty) for an apple.
I searched and found the following information: (free translation from:
http://www.montalegre-do-cercal.com/Pflanzenlexikon/Malus.html)
/TheLatin word Malus means "Penalty", translates as "evil". Eva seduced Adam in paradise with an apple. Apple = Malus?
At the same time the emperor holds a golden apple in the hands, everyone knows the story of William Tell even today. The apple has been playing very long time an important role in human culture. Over thousands of
years apples were a symbol of wealth, love and fertility./
I don't know about other languages but in german there are so many proverbs around Apple.
.... I wanted to add some more information to your mail:   [efloraofindia:85899] Rosaceae Week:Rose - A gift on all occasions (04/10/2011 NSJ)
Rose colors red and white are combined in the tudor rose, read interesting information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tudor_rose
another piece of interesting Info can be found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wars_of_the_Roses. (German Rosenkrieg).
The Term Rosenkrieg is used in German language for WORD-WAR between a couple.

One doubt. Apple genus Malus or Pyrus or both or one new, one old?
Pyrus malus is not an accepted name but is a synonym of Malus pumila. The correct genus of Apple is Malus
This is what I have been teaching my students for 35 years, since this provides examples of tautonym (Malus malus), how basionym becomes unapplicable and so on. Unfortunately (but correctly now) the name Malus
pumila is now restricted to Paradise apple, a wild species, smaller tree with bright pink petals and fruit not larger than 1.5 cm. Our Table apple or orchard apple is now known as Malus domestica.
Nice discussion going on here. I missed it somehow.
One more example of tautonym was Linaris linaris which was later changed to Linaris linifolia. Such names are valid in zoology though.

Malus domestica (Apple)

Pulna Village - on Ghangria - Govind ghat route

16.08.2012

Yes, the taste of the apple was very good, same as Kashmiri apple.
Around Uttarakhand while I was travelling once, on same route, some one asked me if I want to eat some delicious apple.
I was surprised they didnt know english but they knew the word 'delicious'. Later I came to know that the name of the variety growing in the area especially around Nainital is called DELICIOUS. May be this is the same variety.
