Crataegus laevigata 'Paul's Scarlet' from Kashmir: Crataegus laevigata 'Paul's Scarlet' Common name: A cultivar of Midland Hawthorn A small thorny tree up to 8 m t with three to five lobed shiny leaves and double scarlet flowers in bunches and producing red berries in autumn. grows well in partial shade or full sun. Rosaceae Week : Crataegus monogyna : Kashmir : 081011 : AK-6: Sharing pictures of Crataegus monogyna taken at Srinagar in Sept, 2011. It may be helpful if you are able to give the exact location of this tree. I have a feeling that this may not be Crataegus monogyna, as leaf lobes are more or less obtuse at tip. I have photographed another species from a Garden in Srinagar. This was photographed in one of the plant nurseries near Cheshmeshahi Gardens. I have some more pictures of the same. Please let me know if you would like me to post those for making it easier to id. Leaf shape and fruit size and colour suggest C. laevigata. Leaves look similar to Crataegus phaenopyrum, common name Washington Hawthorn. Attachments (1) Craetegus oxyacantha - Hawthorn In C. oxycantha/monogyna leaves are much more deeply divided. This seems to be C. laevigata I agree that leaves in my pictures are different from C oxycantha. Did you check for C. phaenopyrum? They looked similar to me. 1 post by 1 author.
