Ziziphus caracutta? :  Attachments (2 + 2).  5 posts by 4 authors.
From Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai. Is it Ziziphus caracutta?
it is Zizyphus oenoplia (L.) Mill.
i too thought it was Z. caracutta.
How to differentiate bet Z. caracutta and Z. oenoplia.
Attaching the pics taken at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivli, Mumbai in the last week of Sept 2009.
Z. oenoplea:
the twig and the lower surface of leaves are tomentose with golden silky hairs. upper surface is shining glossy. fruit are ripeing black, about 0.6-0.8 cm across; rind soft. styles 2.

Zizyphus caracatta Buch-Ham. ex Rox:
leaves glabrous above, glabrescent beneath, trinerved;deep green, ripening black, rugose, 1.5 cm in diameter, rind hard, stony. styles 3-fid.

There is a spelling correction in these two names. It is Ziziphus caracutta Buch.-Ham. ex Roxb.
and Ziziphus oenoplia ( L. ) Mill. Both belong to the family Rhamnaceae

Looks right. Thank you very much, ma'am.
Yes, this should be Ziziphus oenoplia..

Other than the generic name બોર bor (or બોરડી bordi), there is another name erandi OR eramdi listed for Ziziphus oenoplia in Biological Diversity of Gujarat [PDF].
Eranda is a well-known name for castor-oil plant. Would like to know whether Z. oenoplia indeed shares the name એરંડી erandi with castor-bean plant.

"Eramdi" does appear as a vernacular name of "Zizyphus oenoplia" in the Flora of Gujarat State (vol. 1, 1978) by GL Shah. This word is spelt as એરમડી in the Bruhad Gujarati Kosh (Comprehensive Gujarati Dictionary, part 1, 1976) by Prof. Keshavram K. Shastree [sic], quite distinct from એરંડો / એરંડ of Ricinus communis. I don't know what exactly એરમડી denotes in the context of Z. oenopolia. This species is often known as બોરડીનો વેલો.

Now while I am re-compiling common names of Ziziphus oenoplia after some gap of years, to my surprise, the epithet has got "corrected" to oenopolia. The genus name itself has its own records of spelling variances, and there are some posts in our database that discussed it.
Spelling variances are confusing, obscure etymology makes it difficult. Please help in knowing what would oenoplia OR oenopolia mean.
oinos = wine OR vine ? and pleion = more, many OR plia = spine ?

Thanks, ..., for initial Id.
I do not know about the first & 3rd image, but think 2nd image is of Ziziphus oenopolia
It has hard stem (wood).
I will attach more images freshly.
The first and third pictures are deformities in the same plant I think.
