Ranunculaceae Week: Ranunculus muricatus from Delhi and Kashmir: Ranunculus muricatus L., Sp. pl. 1:555. 1753

Diffusely branched annual herb with irregularly cut trifid leaves and few achenes with flattened sides that may be tubercled or smooth. Latter specimens were described as R. emuricata, but have been relegated to the synonymy of variable taxon R. muricatus.

These tiny yellow flowers with beautiful leaves are growing on the ground next to clovers, grass and other ground spreads. I am not sure what I am looking at. Buttercups? Please advise.

Yes it is Ranunculus muricatus.

I see it now ... Muricatus means spiny and hence Spiny-fruit Buttercup or Ranunculus muricatus.

Last year I could not make better pictures of the fruit for this R. muricatus after ... pointed me to the correct ID. Here are some photos showing the characteristic fruits and flowers.
