I found this beautiful buttercup on my walk today. I thought I knew this but I am now not certain. Could it be Ranunculus distans or Ranunculus repens?
Mcleodganj, Dharamshala. HP
Young leaves on the same plant are like this:
And the bud:

I think R. distans (syn: R. laetus), common in Himalayas.
Thank you ...

Ranunculus distans ABJAN01/14 : 5 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (10)
Some buttercups are flowering already. I am not sure if it is due to mild weather this winter here. Flora of China says that R. sceleratus flowers in Jan-July but has small flowers.
I am more inclined to think that my sample is R. distans (R. laetus previously but see http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=242000634)
A few observations;
Flower 2cm across, sepals hairy (villous), on a long stalk with adpressed white hair. The basal leaves large—slightly wider than long, on hairy stalks (11cmx9cm). Upper leaves without pedicels, in three, and about 4cm. The main stem hollow, hairier at nodes.
Apart from lanceolate, narrow the flowering time, the features point to R. distans. Please advise.
I am including a screenshot from the Flora of British India by J. D. Hooker.

Thanks, ..., for the nice illustrations.
I think these match with images at Ranunculus laetus

Thank you ... It’s curious that many spring flowers are already out this winter.

Should be.
Koel which is generally silent in winters here also, is calling incessantly since last 15 days or so in Kolkata as if it's spring time.

Thanks ... I think some expert should study this phenomenon and publish a paper.  Are we in every year for an early spring? Why some plants react to warm winters while others don't? It would be a worthwhile to record this change.

Ranunculus distans Royle (syn. Ranunculus laetus Wall. ex Royle)commonly known as: cheerful buttercup
Native of India
Viewed: 03 JUN 08, Van Vihar, Manali, Himachal Pradesh

It is good to see that the proposal which I had made in my book in 1976 has finally been accepted by Kew Plant List and Tropicos. Treating Ranunculus distans Royle as accepted name.

Requesting to please validate ID of this plant captured at different places near Manali and Dharamshala, HP in October 2014.
I hope this is Ranunclus laetus (based on ... submission earlier last month).
Very beautiful Uploads. Ranunculus laetus is a very complex specie and has been deliminated into four subspecies so kindly disseminate all relevant information about the plant which can help in correct identification of the species
Thank you ... for feedback... Unfortunately, I do not have any further pics/details
I think same as in Ranunculaceae Fortnight :: Ranunculus laetus :: HP :: ARKJAN-13/45

I guess slight different to the flowering period which is not matching.
Pl. check with R. laetus as per keys and illustrations at Srivastava SK (2010) Revision of genus Ranunculus L.(Ranunculaceae) in India. Taiwania 55(3): 273-314. [Full text with line diagrams]

Please identify the small herb from an estate near Ranikhet, Uttarakhand.
Here are two different plants..one of them Youngia sp. (japonica ?)..the second one, Ranunculus sp. ..
2nd image as attached appears close to Ranunculus distans subsp. distans

Ranunculus repens in FOI : 4 posts by 3 authors.
Your images at Ranunculus repens in FOI may not be of this species as it has been reported from India, only from Sikkim as per Srivastava SK (2010) Revision of genus Ranunculus L.(Ranunculaceae) in India. Taiwania 55(3): 273-314. [Full text with line diagrams].
Pl. check Ranunculus cantoniensis DC. as per

Thanks ..., You are right. This plant should be Ranunculus laetus, which is now called Ranunculus distans.
