I think it is different than mine Yes it is caltha palustris Caltha palustris VoF Week: Caltha palustris from way to Hemkund Sahib: Caltha palustris from way to Hemkund Sahib Pls validate Good to see the yellow Caltha. Have mostly seen white in Kashmir. The yellow Caltha has been posted as Caltha palustris var himalensis in FoI. Plz see the link: http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Marsh%20Marigold.html In fact, i have recently clicked a yellow Caltha in Kashmir also. Yes this aspect needs some investigation. Caltha palustris var. palustris the typical yellow form does not occur in India. It differs from var. himalaica Tamura of Himalayas as under Var. himalaica: stems solid, style 2-3 mm long var. palustris: stems hollow, style 1-1.5 mm long I wonder whether var. himalaica Tamura (1962) or var. himalensis (D Don) Mukh. (1960) are same, but then I am not sure why former is treated as correct name by the Plant list, and latter if different (because it is not listed as synonym of former) what are its attributes. Caltha palustris var. himalensis (D.Don) Mukh.is a synonym of Caltha palustris L. as per The Plant List. Can you tell us what should be the Indian Plant- Caltha palustris L. or Caltha palustris var. himalaica Tamura ? Caltha palustris var. himalaica Tamura Acta Phytotax. Geobot. 19: 76 1962 is the accepted name, but, Caltha palustris var. himalensis (D.Don) Mukh. Bull. Bot. Surv. India 2: 105 1960 is the synonym of Caltha palustris var. himalensis (D.Don) Mukh. Bull. Bot. Surv. India 2: 105 1960 is the synonym of Caltha palustris L. Sp. Pl. 558 1753.Sp. Pl. 558 1753. Here is an article which studied the variation in the species on British Isles and found that there is no sound evidences of recognising different subspecies !!! Ofcourse this may not stand true for Himalayan species but you never know. Just that we didnt study our species in such detail to conclude anything. As per GRIN & FOC & FON, as per the following links, only Caltha palustris var. himalensis (D.Don) Mukh. Bull. Bot. Surv. India 2: 105 1960- synonym of Caltha palustris L. Sp. Pl. 558 1753. & Caltha palustris L. is shown in range at India & not Caltha palustris var. himalaica Tamura (not mentioned in GRIN at all): Ranunculaceae Fortnight: SMP JAN 04 Caltha palustris Spiti Valley : 3 posts by 3 authors. 2 images. As an aside, one might notice the plastic litter discarded by pilgrims, which was very disturbing to me.This should be Caltha palustris..
