This one is a shrub from Andaman. I had seen this in plenty in the wild near the Sea beach. Shrub was in fruiting stage. Could not spot any flowers.
Locals were calling this as Khadi phal and told me that it is edible.
Date/Time:  21-12-2010 / 05:50AM
Location: Near a beach on the way to Chidiya tapu at the out skirts of Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar).
Habitat: wild
Plant Habit: Shrub (2 to 3 m)
Fruits were globuse (approx 8mm dia).
I am forwarding the response i received from P.Lakshminarasimhan ji (Scientist from Central National Herbarium, BSI, Howrah):
My colleague Dr. C. Murugan, Scientist in BSI, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre, Port Blair has confirmed the identity of the images as belonging to Ardisia oxyphylla Wall. ex A. DC. [Myrsinaceae]
