Rumex patientia or Rumex nepalensis;
Flora of Uttarakhand- Herb21 for Id- JM: Wild Herb captured on 13/8/10 during the trek from Ghangaria (around 11,000 ft.) to Hemkunt Sahib (around 14000 ft.).
Species of Rumex are mostly identified on the basis of fruiting perianth, this plant being in flower, but looking at the plant size and leaves, it may be Rumex patientia var. orientalis Common sorrel or garden sorrel (Rumex acetosa) a very tasty vegetable. Germanname Wiesen-Sauerampfer I think the leaves of R. acetosa are distinctly hastate to sagittate at base. Hard to say with these photographs. The habit of Rumex patientia is supposed to be more robust as per the information and photographs provided by eFlora.org. Further, R. patientia var. orientalis Danser is treated under the synonymy of R. patientia L. var. patientia by Tropicos, not yet reported from India. A close scrutiny of the flower and fruits will help. Waiting for further comments.
Wild Weed for ID : Patni Top : 171011 : AK-1: A wild weed growing by the roadside at Patni Top on the 5th of Sept,11. Rumex sp. A clope up of flower would decide the species R. nepalensis or R. patientia On checking at FOI, I find it looks more like Rumex nepalensis. Unfortunetely just one picture i have. VoF Week :: DV :: 02 AUG 12 - 0827 :: Rumex ¿ acetosa ? at Valley of Flowers: 2 AUG 12 Valley of Flowers ... about 11200 ft Habitat: sloping meadow Habit: herb, about 1 m high; flower about 2 - 3 mm across None of your photographs show leaves of the same plant. It would help if leaves ((very distinctive in different species) show along with inflorescence. Not able to recollect why I did not capture leaves and stem of this plant. Next trip I will be cautious and get mores aspects of the plant. I understand - getting to ID especially when there are species close to each other, require photos showing key aspects which are not available this time. So, would like to rest this post. until I get more aspects of this plant during my next trip.
Place : Valley of Flowers National Park Date : 14.08.2012 Looks like Rheum spiciforme, but can't be sure right now. Rumex, most probably R, nepalense. Close up of fruiting perianth should help. Rumex dentatus I think
