Kalatope id al210711a: A plant which I think is also used locally as a vegetable...
Location Kalatope, H.P.
Altitude 2100 mts
Habit herb
Habitat wild
Plant height can grow up to 5 feet
I think fagopyrum esculentum (Buckwheat)

Since the plant is wild, can grow up to height of 5 feet (as reported by ...) and white flowers, and narrow infl. branches, it should be Fagopyrum dibotrys (D. Don) Hara (syn: F. cymosum (Trev) Meisn.), common in the Himalayas.
It is used as a vegetable.
F. esculentum is a much smaller plant, cultivated in fields, mostly at higher altitides, has pinkish tinge in flowers.
... may focus on ochrea (a tube like structure at the point from where leaf departs from stem). In F. esculentum the ochrea is hardly 2-4 mm long whereas it is 8-12 mm long in F. dibotrys.
Buckwheat seeds make an excellent gluten free flour, whole seeds boiled are a good main course as a salad...
good for people with gluten hypersensitivity...

... is absolutely right this is Fagopyrum dibotrys .. I have F. esculentum also from Pangi matching the description given by ...

These were growing alongside the trail. It could be escapes - not sure of facts.

Polygonacae Fortnight: Fagopyrum dibotrys from Kashmir-GSMAY03 : 8 posts by 5 authors. Attachments (3).
Fagopyrum dibotrys photographed from Dachhgam in Kashmir
Good close-up..

Nice one! Currently known as Fagopyrum acutatum (Lehm.) Mansf. ex K.Hammer
Thanks, .... The Plant List Ver.1.1  record is based on the following:
"The record derives from WCSP (in review) (data supplied on 2012-03-23) "
While all other sources accept Fagopyrum dibotrys (efi page)
In view it better that we continue to follow Fagopyrum dibotrys (D. Don) H. Hara till issue is resolved in WCSP or some new things come to light.
I think it is advisable to follow F. acutatum as correct name as it is accepted in both 2010 1.1 and 2012 ver. 2 of the Plant List
Flora of China listing is 2003, the GRIN record was updated in 2005.
GBIF online database mentions
this may be the correct name for this species, as its basionym, Polygonum acutatum Lehm., if it applies furnishes the oldest available epithet
Thanks, ...,
GRIN page on Fagopyrum acutatum (Lehm.) Mansf. ex K. Hammer has been updated in 2011.
(with Comment: this may be the correct name for this species, as its basionym, Polygonum acutatum Lehm., if it applies furnishes the oldest available epithet).
Thus issue has been examined by GRIN in 2011, but still they are not sure.
The Plant List Ver.1.1  record is based on the following:
"The record derives from WCSP (in review) (data supplied on 2012-03-23) "
In view it better that we continue to follow Fagopyrum dibotrys (D. Don) H. Hara till issue is resolved in WCSP (after their review is complete) or some new things come to light.
Thanks ...

Sharing some pictures of Fagopyrum acutatum (Lehm.) Mansf. ex K. Hammer (accepted name) syn: Fagopyrum dibotrys (D. Don) Hara (synonym)
shot at Okharpauwa, Nepal on 13 July 2013 at 5200 ft.
Nepali Name: वन फापर Van Phaapar/ फापर घाँस Phaapar Ghaas

Good of you to draw our attention to the up-dated name of Fagopyrum acutatum to what I was still calling F.dibotrys just weeks ago regarding photos posted in Himachal Pradesh. Stewart (1972) knew the plant as F.cymosum. So one must wonder what name it will be by the time the next flora of the region is published!
The 'Enumeration' gives an altitudinal range of 1500-3400m. 'Flora of Kathmandu Valley' only had a record from Bagmati river bank @ 1250m.
