My mother played with this herb, my wife too, but my daughter didn't, for now-a-days they have barbie-sindy-leo-funskool.... god knows how many! This is a common herb which is often used in junior schools to demonstrate absorption & transportation of water in plants.
Species : Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth
Bengali name : LUCHI-PATA
Habit & Habitat : common herb, prostrate-erect
Date : 19/8/12, 12.01 P.M.
Place : Hooghly
site visited :
how did they ever make luchi from these pata? please have your mom or wife tell me.
Luchi is known to the western world as PURI ..
people who go to indian restaurants either are served real puris (is 3-4 inch in diameter) puris
or you must have seen those gimmicky 12 inch puffed puris.... nowadays malls in India are also serving them... last year I saw these being served in the food court in a couple of malls in Kolkata

My mom says she and her friends used those entire leaves as dummy LUCHI for their dolls. My wife says she used to cut the leaves round with the help of a can-lid, you know small cans made from aluminium were used as packaging for 'zafrani zarda' or 'snuff' or even tooth-powder. Parthenium flowers or some others were cauliflower in their dream kitchen! Brick dust was chili-powder to them!

Saw these tiny wild plants growing on top of an old wall.
Leaves were a perfect heart shaped.
Id please.
This is Peperomia pellucida

This succulent herb is very common in Dehradun and surroundings..
Pepromia pellucida ...
To me it is P. pellucida, a herb in shady moist localities. One of the invasive alien element in India.
yes, This also sprouts in the unsterilized soil, esp. if i bring the soil from near river banks or sand sitting around in the edges of garden  etc.
Weed but of some nutritional value (only if it could be grown and harvested like the watercress (wild or even commercially grown in many western countries)
