In those older days, using its shiny leaves, girls cooked / prepared LUCHI (now, what is the English of LUCHI?) for their wooden dolls! how did they ever make luchi from these pata? please have your mom or wife tell me. Luchi is known to the western world as PURI .. people who go to indian restaurants either are served real puris (is 3-4 inch in diameter) puris or you must have seen those gimmicky 12 inch puffed puris.... nowadays malls in India are also serving them... last year I saw these being served in the food court in a couple of malls in Kolkata My mom says she and her friends used those entire leaves as dummy LUCHI for their dolls. My wife says she used to cut the leaves round with the help of a can-lid, you know small cans made from aluminium were used as packaging for 'zafrani zarda' or 'snuff' or even tooth-powder. Parthenium flowers or some others were cauliflower in their dream kitchen! Brick dust was chili-powder to them!
