Yes aristatus. Did you open up the petals to take picture? Flower here is not properly open, the side lobes usually go more sideways than backwards. The ovary of Peristylus is very much parallel to the main stalk and kind of appressed to it. Your plant it seems a bit away. Thanks ... The flowers were so tiny that it was very difficult to hold them. Took the pictures after gently blowing into them. The flowes at no 3, 4 and 5 do not belong to the plant at no 1 where the inflorescence was still immature. The flowers belong to another plant growing near by where the inflorescence contained one open flower at the base and another partially open one. Something to keep in mind for me, while observing this next time? For all terrestrial orchids you are perfect, its always helpful to take pics of whole plant, flower closeup from all three angles, nice view of spur and nice view of labellum !! Cool. Will keep these in mind :) This appears to me as Peristylus aristatus. P. spiralis has spiral leaf arrangement and scattered on the stem but for P. aristatus it is clustered at middle of the stem. I can see my id is wrong. Thanks for correcting me. But the issue is not of leaf. Leaves are like that in both depending on the environment (Image of type specimen is attached). Leaves of aristatus is scattered in King and Pantling's illustration. The main difference I see is the spur. Spur is a bit elongated in aristatus but much reduced and globular in spiralis. J.J.Sm. ??? or Peristylus aristatus Lindl. ??? No sir, I think this is Peristylus calcaratus. Here is a pic of tentaculatus, you can check the spur. Sorry I have been so confused with this. There is a prominent difference between three plants Peristylus tentaculatus: scrotiform spur. Peristylus calcaratus: spur is elongated and a bit angular with two lobed apex. Peristylus aristatus: Slightly elongated but rounded apex. Your plant and the plant on Bhakta's orchid book are Peristylus aristatus. Even my pics of P. tentaculatus and P. calcaratus are correctly identified but they are not similar to the plant shared by ... Sorry for inconvenience. Some sketches to aid in identification is attached herewith. I guess you have validated later this as Peristylus aristatus Lindl. since the Peristylus calcaratus is not listed in Nepal. Could you please confirm?? Yes this should be Peristylus aristatus with that spur. |
