ID help for orchid: This is the most common orchid in our campus.

Date: 18th April 2011 Equipment: Nikon D300s with Sigma 150-500mm OS lens - The picture is very beautiful, so it tempted me to find name of it. I think it is a Papilionanthe species, most probably P. teres. - .., after heavy physical exertion in order to get new vigor this orchid is used externally by local people of your area. You can also ask old TBAs of your area about its use in post natal care. - This is for sure Papilionanthe teres, but I am not sure if this is wild or Ornamental. There are many hybrid available for this in market in Assam.

Cylindrical Vanda is Papilionanthe teres (not Dendrobium moschatum as it was mentioned in earlier post ) Yes it is Papilionanthe teres. But the other one seems like chlorophytum Oh sorry, the second flower is as named.
At this time of the year Papilionanthe teres ( CYLINDRICAL VANDA ) is in bloom throughout North Bengal. They are seen on all type of trees. But once they are on Mango tree or Jarul tree it gives special effect. On Jarul tree the flower of the orchid merges with flowers of Jarul.
