Locality not revealed for security reasons. The plant is extracted very badly from wild and the population has depleted drastically over the years. Note: This trip was undertaken with Dr. Phillip Cribb who is one of the foremost Orchid experts of the world from Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Dr. Gunter Fischer (my HoD) and Dr. Ruy Baretto, one of the eminent bird watcher from Hong Kong. Care was taken not to trample any plant scattered around and trust me it was really inconvenient sitting there because they were all around us. No these pics where taken from Nikon D7000 + Nikkor 105mm lens + SB900 (+ 2 SB800) Speedlight sets. Just wanted to add one secret of this pic which I find good. I am not trying to boost but just wanted to share this technology. The speed light set of SB900 has three flash lights. One fixed over the cam and the other two came be attached to the ring in front of the lens or they can be left on ground at various angles. There is infra-red remote on the main flash above the cam. So once you click it, the other two flash also blinks. I kept the two flash on ground facing upwards towards the right and left side of the flower from ground. So one flash from front and two from below and the result is no shadow one the image. It really helps a lot for macro and it can be used also for portraits. I never tried how far the remote works. Have to experiment more :). I am not allowed to carry office camera home as I was in India!! In India I also tried the same technique using mirrors and white paper reflectors. This is Paphiopedilum purpuratum (Lindl.) Stein. This is supposed to be rare and known to be originally described from collections from Hong Kong. Recently it has been discovered in Vietnam and mainland China. In Hong Kong this plant is highly threatened due to poaching and development works. Hope you all will like it. Not known medicinal values to me atleast. Orchids in any shape and condition are threatened to poaching. What a lovely picture .. ... Specialty :) Splendid picture of orchid standing tall in the grand forest around it. Very nice picture ... !! A graceful orchid with flowers standing tall above rosette showing its emminence on forest floor. Never seen this genus in wild. Your treasure has numerous unseen gems!
