Gori Valley Tour: Orchid 10 for id....: Though the flowering was over....only fruits were present, still I hope to get id for this epiphytic orchid....shot from near Chokori...
Sir, this species LUISIA, looks like Luisia trichorrhiza (Hook) Blume
Yes ... is right, it is Luisia trichorrhiza
Luisia sp. Need to check the roots and flowers to confirm the species.
Luisia trichorhiza will have hairs on the roots. Please check if there is.... otherwise Luisia zeylanica.
I do not observed root hairs in Luisia trichorhiza but there are some morphological difference, I am sending you some line drowings please go through it.....
This plant is Luisia zeylanica.
One difference is the thickness of the leaf which tapers as you go up in zeylanica where as in trichorhiza it abruptly tapers and ends.

ANAPR53 Luisia tristis (G.Forst.) Hook.f. :  9 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (11)
Family: Orchidaceae
Date: 19th April 2015
Place: Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, Tamil Nadu

Habit: Epiphytic herb
Habitat: Deciduous forest

Astounding pics..!!
I have seen this epiphyte in western Himalayas (may not be this species), but only in vegetative phase, flowers are really beautiful..
Luisia tristis (= Luisia zeylanica) and Luisia trichorhiza look similar and both of them are together found from Orissa to upper part of India. One basic difference between them is the presence of hairs on the rhizome or stem or roots in trichorrhiza and the leaf is cylindric abruptly ending in a rounded tip. In tristis leaves taper from above the middle and tip is a bit more pointed that trichorrhiza. I always get confused with such keys.... So I cant confirm from these pics, but nice pics....
And thank you ... I can get photos of the roots and any other parts. I was with two orchid lovers who regularly go to these areas and if they find any orchid containing branches fallen down, bring it back home and grow it. They gave me a branch too. Please tell me which parts and how to show very clearly to distinguish the species (if it is possible to distinguish using photos).
Hairs cant be observed so easily if present. You need a close up or just check it yourself.
Thank you sir, will let you know what I find.
Regarding the distribution, can L. trichorrhiza be found in South India? You mentioned Orissa-Northern India earlier, sir.
Here are the close ups sir. They seemed perfectly glabrous to me. I checked under a magnifying lens as well.
