Luisia macrantha Blatt. & McCann Orchidaceae Endemic to India. Thanks for sharing. The lateral petals are of indefinite growth which gives it a look of arms of a kathakali dancer.
My Floral Picture of the Year 2011 - Neil Soares: Photographed on my property at Shahapur in August 2011. Oh simply Superb! very very beautiful almost looks human. What an apt name and crystal clear photography. cool.... thanks for sharing the Kathakali orchid.... Orchids are outnumbering others here :)) Those leaves are actually not complete so they dont give the actual impression of the lenght of the leaf. Superb amazing Catch!!!!!! looks like ..... Ghost on tree Hahaha..Ghost?? ... pl dont make ... angry! :-) To me it looks like a lady walking on a tight rope. Infact Kathakali dance is the representation of God and not Ghosts!!! But when I came to know of the orchid's name for the first time in my life, I was really amused, why they called it Kathakali orchid. Infact it does have a very peculiar structure which I felt when I saw it live later. By the way, the petals are of indefinite growth so they keep elongating..... :)) now it sounds ghostly!!! And ..., yes I did notice the spider in the flower at the time. It was perfectly camouflaged but its movements when a small fly came nearby revealed its presence.
