An Orchid..?? Kalatope id al160711:  I almost missed sighting this one...
but I am glad I did for it was a beautiful flower...
Location Kalatope, Chamba
Altitude 2100 mts
Season July
Habit herb
Habitat wild
Plant height 24-30 inches

Beauty... may be there is A usefulness to its being green, so that mammals who can see colors would miss it and not eat it? may be there is a reason for such color? does some one know the story?
I just discovered that it has a better resemblance to Epipactis helleborine .. is from the same family or a var...
Epipactis  but sp yet to confirm. May be E royleana.  In Flowers of Himalya  by Polunin and Stainton E royleana has been described as having green flowers with red veined and with yellowish or reddisgh lip. But google search does not seems to agree.
This is Epipactis helleborine (L.) Crantz, a terrestrial orchid with a very broad distribution from North Africa, Europe to China.

Current pic taken in Valley of Flowers, going further up from the inner bridge among the forest floor. Not so common. Sorry the plan is in bud and it was not close so I had to use tele I assume. Not a good pic.
..., seems not possible for me to locate this plant unless shown to me at a finger's distance.

I came across this orchid, Epipactis helleborine, during a trek in Shimla.
Nice pictures, Yes Epipactis helleborine
Excellent.... on which trek
Thank you all for the appreciations.
..., it was part of FRLHT's nation-wide explorations for documentation of medicinal and Red Listed plants.
Dr. Goraya, I.F.S. (also a member of eFI), lead this survey in August 2007. I don't remember the exact location but it was near Shimla, a pine + Quercus forest.

On 26 June and yesterday I found a couple of plants of this orchid. One had gone limp due to heavy rains in the last few days but the other one was still standing but far from my macro’s reach. Here are some photos.
