Kalatope Calanthe id al180611a:  Another Calanthe from our area, I had noticed the buds last year but was
not able to watch the flowering.. and did not know the flower.. this year I remembered and went looking in the forest and was just able to witness the last flowering .. hence the flowers are not in their prime.. just enough for me to see that they are the same type as the last Calanthe orchid I had found..
Location Kalatope Sanctuary
Altitude 2400mts
Habit herb
Habitat wild
Height 20 inches

Could this be Calanthe tricarniata? The lip is not clear hence too difficult to confirm I guess. May be ... can validate the same.

For me also closest match is C. tricarinata (I hope ... does not read my comment---from a novice on orchids; My match is based on three species described in Flora simlensis)

If it is tricarinata then there should be three carinate lamellae on the labellum. Which I cant see properly. By the look of the colors of the petals and sepals, it does look like Calanthe tricarinata, but I have seen fainted Calanthe plantaginea, it looks the same too. I remember last time what he showed was very much plantaginea and HE claims its the same plant.
And yeah, I have no issues if ... leads in answering :)). It makes me happy to know that group is not fully dependent on me. Thats the way it should be and for sure I make lot of mistakes. But I have one good habit of rechecking my own ids. Its because somehow, if I see any orchid live or pic, it always remains in my head. So whenever I come across any reference book with similar characters, I always recheck, though I may not comment on the thread until I find my own id wrong.
I am sure, if I had given this pic to some orchid people outside the group without actually telling the elevation, many of them would have thought of Eulophia !!!
Few days back I realised I made mistakes and asked ... to resend the picture she had sent months back and I was confirm that I was wrong though while identifying earlier I was sure of the ID. Orchids have always been tricky.
I always say, I can go wrong, anyone can go wrong!!! and rechecking always help.
Any one can be wrong in id of plant on the basis of just picture of flower or leaves...thats not big issue
but when it comes to you Pankaj, yeah i am sure you are after that specimen till you will be satisfied that your identification is 100% correct ... thats why i trust you and i validate id of all my orchids from you, i appreciate your dedication and sincerity
Yeah you asked for more pictures from me to validate  previous id...thats true....
Experts like you, Gurucharan sir&many more makes group richer!!! so  be with us...with group for perfect id...
I am sorry if my language is not clear enough..
1. The Calanthe Plantigenia of Kalatope id'd earlier by ... was found at a lower altitude and at a different time of the year
2. This one reminded me of Calanthe's BECAUSE of it's shape... BUT I do not think it is the same as C. Plantigenia.
3. I HAD found this plant at the same place last year but then it was not flowering (just budding) and this year by the time I had gone to it's location (in June).. the flowering had just finished... Where the C. plantigenia had finished flowering two months before this.
Of course I am not an expert on this subject.. Hence I'd rather wait for next year (if I am still here) to confirm these findings..
This is an example of mistake which can arise when you do not provide the date of taking pictures.
If you have collected it in August then for sure this should be Calanthe tricarinata.....
Calanthe plantaginea flowers during April.......

This ground orchid is shot in Sunderdhunga valley at an altitude of 2400m. Seems C.tricarinata, experts may have a better determination. Image-2 is a cropped up part of first image.
Yes sir this should be Calanthe tricarinata.

Wish you all Very Very Happy New Year
I do take lots of pictures of flowers but this one special for me in 2013
We were on flower hunting tour to Chopta & Tungnath .. Me, ... , ... & his wife
Me being Crazy Orchid lover was continuously saying ‘Orchid ..Orchid plzz!
And then ... jumped with joy ‘ Here is Orchid Mam’
It was this Miss Beautiful !!!, Scietifically called Calanthe tricarinata ...
Full blooming & Smiling happily with us in her beautiful yellowish green flowers
Brownish red colored labellum with flabellate mid lobe having strongly undulate margin added beauty to flowers
It was first orchid on tour ... We danced with joy, It was happiest moment !!!
New orchid species for me ... What more could have I asked for !!!
I love flower hunting in Himalaya ..among huge mountains, under deep blue sky, travelling on winding road with own vehicle is so much fun, yeah we traveled by ... car and that too with expert like ... what a fun !!
It was memorable tour !!
I am really thankful to ... and ... for such a wonderful tour
Friends, i hope you will like my picture
... very nice picture, beautiful orchid, great company, heavenly place !!
Thanks, ..., for the passionate account. You remind me of myself when I used to go on any trek or trip, I will be the first to bring out my lenses etc. to start clicking the birds.
Nice one! I can feel that joy!
So bright as if growing in sun. Usually this loves growing in shade.
Yes flower hunting in the mighty Himalaya is always exciting, as I have found during last few decades.
Nice memories with this prized catch. In fact these memories are actual fuel for another plant hunting in the area.
Thank you for sharing beautiful picture and memories!
