One of my friends suggested that this could be B.rosemarianum because of the short and squat pseudobulbs and if it were sweet smelling. I remember to have sniffed the flowers but were odourless or definitely not foul-smelling. Those flies are sitting on the flower, and they are always attracted to the smell, so the flowers must be having some smell and specially foul one for those flies. sorry with those flies, it can be both foul or sweet smelling. The basic mistake here is the name itself. Thanks for your thoughts ... the best and easiest way would be to go and smell it again. Please remember that flies get attracted to SMELL.... Though I did not smell anything foul two of my team members were unanimous that it smelt a little bit foul...! As you mentioned there were flies.....this time I found many small 'fruit-fly' like flies hovering around. I am uploading an image of one such fly that I could photograph. I think that this info helps in nailing the ID. Attachments (1) Here are icones of B. rosemarianum and B. neilghrrense (= B. sterile) I always thought they are differentiated on the basis of smell, rosemarianum (fruity) and sterile (foul). May be they should be merged. But the leaf in your pic is comparatively shorter as I think rosemarianum has much monger leaves. Column and labellum structure matches very well in both.
