The foliage of this looks like Syzygium malaccense to me. The common name 'Rose Apple' is typically (at least in USA) applied to Syzygium jambos. This is not Rose apple. The leaves of Rose Apple are long and narrow. Anybody could get confused and call it Roseapple by looking at the picture of the flowers and the fruit in the third picture. Petals seem to fall off fast. The flowers don't seem to last long. Photographed in April. Please identify. Perhaps a Myrtaceae member, looking like jamun but missing stamens are confusing, as are somewhat lobed petals ( I hope i am not confusing something). I think you are right! Looks very similar to ... plant description. 4 images I collected this fruit few days back. It does not have any pulp. Thick skin protects two seeds of this fruit. Sharing the images of Syzygium samarangense from NBNP, Anaikatti, Coimbatore. Beautiful pictures. What are the colors of the fruits? Very confusing data found on what will be the correct species ID of this plant. It is JAAMROOL in Bengali, produces white fruits, very common in villages. Flora Indica describes - 1) E. aquea R. - two varieties, one with rose coloured fruits and the other is white 2) E. alba R. - white shining fruits.... very insipid and quite watery. The fruits (yet to develop) in this species are watery indeed! "An English Index to the Plants of India" informs JAAMROOL/JAMRUL is E. alba. The malaccensis one is MALACCA-JAMROOL. Photos were taken on 03/04/2013, in an orchard. It will be more clear if you send the images of the fruits. To me, it is a hybrid of Syzygium aqueum and S. samarangense. There are some intermediates between both species. The flowers belong to S. aqueum but the leaves are almost similar to S. samarangense. In Indonesia, I found some cultivars of S. aqueum i.e.: 1) permanently white, 2) white then pink, 3) large pink, 4) small red, 5) large red to dark red. Syzygium samarangense 'Kaget Putih' A leading plant seller in Mumbai has propagated a very interesting tree. As informed by the owner he bought this plant from Vietnam and through grafting has developed this new hybrid and has been selling it since last seven years. I saw it for the first time this year at the show at Rani baug. These are huge red fruits of Jamun, very juicy and more sweeter than the normal small white ones seen in Mumbai. But seriously, because of your interest I am going to try and find out from the nursery owner if they can be made available earlier by them. Hope for the best ! I do not find any similarity of this fruit with Jamun fruit. It's fruit is not waxy, neither it has any seeds in side, though crsip and juicy and plasantly sweet. This ID is resolved. All the morphological chracteristics of S. Samarangense are present except the size of the fruit ,which as informed is a new hybrid through propagation by the nusery owner.

Kind identification of this fruit, arunachal pradesh : 3 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (1) Syzygium Species, probably Syzygium malaccense commonly known as Rose Apple. The bark is dark, the leaf marginal veins are very close to the leaf margin, the fruits are bell shaped, unlike S malaccense. If the fruits are sweet and a bit astringent, it is Syzygium samarangense. If it is acidic, then it is something else. I also think closer to images at Syzygium samarangense (Blume) Merr. & L.M.Perry
