I have seen a pink and long variety of this fruit in Thailand. But our fruit is more tasty. ..., we are on the same boat, I also love fruits very much. We did have the pink variety, however, we do not have it any more. The original plant (yellow) is no more but thanks to birds, it has been dispersed all over and we have a couple of these in our farm and plenty in the neighboring forests. It is these birds that will save our forests by dispersing seeds of many a fruit in the forest which man converted into just plain teak plantations. Thanks to the elephants, we now see a couple of jack fruit trees in the forest too. My photographs of Love Apple [Syzygium jambos]. They were taken at my friends farm at Kolad. I too have this plant but the fruit does not have the fragrance of Rose. It is slightly sour. I have both the white variety as well as the red one. The seeds are very much like that of The Rose apple that I know. There seems to be some confusion. If you go through the link that I had copied to my mail, you will find that Rose apple is a name given to several fruits. I guess the experts in our group will have to discuss the matter.

Family: Myrtaceae Syzyygium jambos Alston Synonyms: Eugenia jambos L. and Jambosa jambos Millsp. It has an interesting small, which is best perceived when one bites into the fruit... the seed rattles inside, and if one handles it roughly, the pale soft skin bruises easily and turns brown... I brought some home, the first of the season got eaten rapidly, nobody would let me take pictures... With the second set (next week) I could get some pictures and keep the seeds for my experiments... Here's the result in pictures... There is imperceptible ridges on the outer skin.. size is variable from the same tree ( my vendor's own) The fruit is hollow, thin wall... seeds have brown skin, usually one seed with a few embroys inside ( see later) one seed had two skin coated halves, one of which was very eager, and had started sprouting already... Many years ago I had searched for the rose apple on the net and found* Julia Morton's* write up the most complete, on reviewing these few lines intriguing and worth repeating... A medium size tree. Seems to be some Syzygium species. Syzygium jambos of Myrtaceae family. Panineerchamba in Malayalam the ripened fruits are yummy, but, bats wont let you get ripened one! I think this is Syzygium siamense (Craib) P.Chantaranothai & J.Parn. It is almost like S. jambos, but the tree is taller and larger, the twig is terete, the leaves are wider, and not dark green.
