Leaves opposite, oblong to elliptic-lanceolate, 3.5-3.8 by 6.1-6.5 in. broad, lamina membranous, 3-costate at the cuneate-acute base, margins entire, apex abruptly acuminate or caudate, glabrous, scabrous on both sides, upper half coarsely toothed, lower half entire, rather thinly coriaceous, glabrous but harsh, lateral nerves 4-8 on either half, base obscurely 5 nerved, acute or cuneate, petiole 2-3 in. long. stipules caducous, lanceolate, 0.3 in. long. Hypanthodia shortly pedunculate, rarely paired, dimorphic, globose, subtended by 3 basal bracts, apical orifice covered by bracts. Figs axillary, solitary, on leafy branchlets. Male and gall flowers in the same receptacle, pedicellate, ostiolar and scattered among gall flowers, sepals bracts red, 5-6 partite, stamen solitary in ostiolar flowers, free and 2(-3) in dispersed ones, anthers broadly ovoid. Female flowers pedicellate, sepals dark red, 5-toothed, ovary with a sub terminal elongate, slender style, stigma often bifid. Achene ovoid. Yellow syconus fruit. Seeds are passed through the alimentary canals of birds and other animals that feed on the fruits. Wasps play an important role in pollination and reproduction of this species.
