Ficus heterophylla

India (Throughout the hotter parts), China, Indochina, Malesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka as per Synopsis of the Genus Ficus L. (Moraceae) in India Lal Babu Chaudhary*, Jana Venkata Sudhakar, Anoop Kumar, Omesh Bajpai, Rinkey Tiwari and G. V. S. Murthy- Taiwania, 57(2): 193-216, 2012;

This interesting shrub of Ficus species was seen at Sawantwadi, Mah., in Sep.'10.
The leaves are polymorphous, 3 many lobed.

Something very new for me in my wildest guess I would have never expected it to be a Ficus
Thanks ... for showing me a interesting plant.

It is interesting to note that "Bengal Plants" as well as FBI & "Botany of Bihar & Orissa" describes three varieties of F. heterophylla L.f., and our esteemed experts threw some light over F. heterophylla L.f. in one of my earlier posts.
The more interesting part is that the distribution of these three var., as per "Bengal Plants" -
  • F. heterophylla L.f. = Tirhut; North Bengal; East Bengal
  • var. scabrella = North Bengal; East Bengal; Chittagong
  • var. repens = North Bengal; East Bengal; Central Bengal; Chittagong
I think another my previous post is F. heterophylla var. repens - https://groups.google.com/d/msg/indiantreepix/Y2My2QX2_qY/rlV-N3iAY7MJ. But, this one is not.
And it is very easy when one uses "heterophylla"!!!

This climbing? Ficus was shot from Chakrata Budher caves road in May 2012...Id please...
Looks to be some Ficus
It should be Ficus heterophylla L.f. {A straggling shrub, leaves and fruits rough and scabrid, leaves alternate, various - elliptic to lanceolate, irregularly dentate or lobed or entire, basal nerves 3; lateral nerves 8-16 pairs; Figs stalked, solitary, axillary}.
taken these pics of a plant growing in a meadow near Sonarpur. West Bengal.
Please note the fruits and the leaf shapes.

Interesting plant! Is it a Ficus species?
Is that a Ficus

i dont think its any kind of Ficus.
It is a short plant that was growing in a meadow.

This is Ficus heterophylla L. f., Suppl. Pl. 442. 178
“Bellam-dumar”, “Gaori-sheora”, “Ghoti-sheora” (all in Bengali). Commonly found in the district of Hoogly, Howrah, Jalpaiguri, Murshidabad and 24 – parganas.

What creeper?/ABDEC37 : 9 posts by 5 authors. 5 images.
Apart from the Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia), Himalayan Woodbine (Parthenocissus semicordata), Himalayan Ivy (Hedera nepalensis), and Ivy Fig (Ficus hederacea) there is this creeper which is quite common. Please advise.

I think I have the answer to this query. Today while walking back I met a shepherd collecting leaves for his cattle. In the large bundle consisting mostly of Grey Oak leaves, he also had some lengths of this creeper. Some had fig like fruits on them. Here are some close ups. I am almost certain that this is Ficus hederacea or Ivy Fig. Please advise.
Ivy Fig (Ficus hederacea)

Himalayan Ivy (Hedra nepalensis) is quite common
Yes ..., I too think this is Ficus hederacea...entangling a tall tree near Dal lake..
Thank you ... I do remember the ivy at Dal but was not competent enough to recognise young leaves without figs.
None else , but Ficus sp....
May be Ficus hederacea
Thank you ..
Can these images (imbedded below) be of Ficus heterophylla L.f. as per images herein as it looks different to me from other images at Ficus hederacea Roxb. ?

Kindly idendify

Pl. check

was this growing wild or in any current or old neglected garden. makes a big difference. please tell us

may be it is a Ficus assamica ??
we have seen several cases including one by ... from Kaziranga, look:
and by ... from hooghly district, ie lower gangetic plains
what i gather is it may not be like strong lliana, but may be scandent shrub  looking like a vine,. hence my previous questions.
secondly if it was in some old garden: humans are known to try and train plants as for example ... tried to train a mango tree to vine, a part of it is stlll around in his ancestral property.
of course i dream.... that you found some such creation?
This appears to be Ficus tinctoria subsp. gibbosa (Blume) Corner [Moraceae].

Ficus tinctoria ssp gibbosa to me too,

This should be Ficus heterophylla L.f.

well becoming interesting day by day. i thought it may be ficus assamica (with two examples we have on hand). then both ... both vote for Ficus tinctoria ssp gibbosa. and now ... (dont know his email) says it could be Ficus heterophylla. now we need a key

I will also go with ... for id (also an expert on this genus) as images and details at Ficus heterophylla compared to those at Ficus assamica or Ficus tinctoria subsp. gibbosa

For F. tinctoria subsp. gibbosa and F. assamica morphological characters for leaves as well as receptacles are much different to Ficus species in this post.
