Yes, this fruit (technically called Syconus) is used as vegetable when green and eaten as fruit when ripe. The fig's cavity get filled with honey like nectar while colour becomes reddish at ripening. Sweet as honey is a certain exaggeration obvious with local guides, but it is certainly a tasty fruit. I was fortunate to have few plants in close proximity of my home in mid hills where we used to consume many such ripe fruits during rainy season.

This tree was seen deep inside the Corbett area, near Mandar River.
Local name given by the guide was Timla.
Found only in the regions having cooler climate.
Kindly validate.
Yes it is F.auriculata, locally called 'Timala'.
Thanks for validation. I was told the ripe ones are as sweet as honey and can be eaten.

I was lucky to see some ripe fruits the day I was leaving, in a resort. Here it is....
Ficus auriculata Lour. Syn: F.roxburghii Wall. Locally called as Taryambal, Traimblu in H P and the ripe fruits are edible. It is a store house of feed for birds.
Just a small correction from my side.
The name given to the river was 'Mandar' as heard by me. It is probably the Mandal River.

Ficus carica - fruit fig SN Aug 57 : 9 posts by 5 authors. Attachments (3).
Ficus carica - fruit fig from Udupi district of Karnataka
I don't think Ficus carica, may be some other species.
Ficus auriculata; I hope.
Ficus auriculata. I have posted recently from Corbett.
I tried find out the variety name, but did n't succeed; some horticulture related experts may know the exact variety. In Ficus carica several varieties are available with so much variations in the leaf shape, fruit shape, size and colour.
There are lot of queries about Ficus carica L., Ficus carica is occur only in cultivation in India. It's allied to Ficus palmata subsp. virgata , it is wildly occur in India. My recently published paper in Journal of Threatened Taxa on 26 Aug 2014 title is 'Taxonomy, distribution and diversity of Ficus palmata Forssk. subsp. virgata (Roxb.) Browicz (Moraceae) in India' is also available online.
After reading this paper people can easily understand the variation in leaves, and their other related queries.
The photographs were identified and confirmed as Ficus auriculata Lour. (=Ficus macrophylla Roxb.) _ Moraceae.

Ficus auriculata (mixed thread):  4 correct images as above.
... As far as I know, F oligodon is tall tree with wide crown and figs have  longitudinal ridges  and borne in cluster. So I have attached few pics from my stock. Hope this could be F oligodon. Moreover, the shape of leaves is different in both the species, in F oligodon it is obovate but here it is elliptic. Size of fig in F oligodon is about 3-5cm and pear shaped and red in colour (as in this pic 1).  Attachments (4)

Elephant Ear Fig a fig tree with very large leaves, reminding one of elephant ears.
The young leaves start intensely red, and turn more and more green when reaching their ultimate size of up to 50 cm length. It is a tree 5-10 m tall, with crown wide, and a bole diameter of 10-15 cm. Bark is gray, smooth. Branchlets are sparsely pubescent. Stipules, falling off soon, are ovate-lanceolate, 1-1.5 cm. Leaves are alternately arranged, carried on 4-6 cm long stalks. They are obovate-elliptic to elliptic, 12-25 6-23 cm, papery, densely small tuberculate on the underside, hairless above, base shallowly heart-shaped to broadly wedge-shaped, margin irregularly toothed. Figs are clustered on short branchlets of old stems, dark red when mature, pear-shaped to spherical, with 4-6 longitudinal ridges and small tubercles. They are large for figs, 2-3.5 cm in diameter, covered with soft hairs.
Figs are edible and sweet. In Meghalaya, fruits are eaten raw, leaves are lopped for highly palatable fodder.
Elephant Ear Fig is found in the Himalayas, from Nepal to NE India, Burma, S. China, Indo-China and Malaya, at altitudes of 1000-2100 m.

Ficus auriculata Lour. ??

To me also appear close to Ficus auriculata
But I am not sure.
I feel it should be Ficus carica as per images herein.
Pl. validate.
No ... It is not F. carica !

But I am also not convinced about it being Ficus auriculata as per

I also think it is not Ficus auriculata as the leaves are too small for it to be close to Ficus auriculata. Ficus auriculata is commonly called the Elephant Ear Fig due to its extremely large leaves.

What about fruits. Here it normally fruits at the base of the main trunk? Need to recheck.
This is Ficus auriculata Lour., even in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand many times we see small leaved trees.
