sharing the images of Hedyotis sp taken from Ranpur, Odisha
Name: Hedyotis ?
Family: Rubiaceae
Habit: Herb
Habitat: Wild, Grasslands
Place of Collection: Ranpur, Nayagarh, Odisha
please dont treat this as Hedyotis. After the examination of the live specimen, it appeared to be Mollugo pentaphylla of Aizoaceae family. This was mixed up with my Rubiaceae folder. As i am still in the process of collection of specimens following its identification simultaneously, the mixe up occurred. Thanks to all for the critical feedback which enable me to look at the specimen again and came to the conclusion. One of my friend has also helped me in relook. Finally this is to be treated as Mollugo pentaphylla
Final identification came as a plant which I know, have collected from Morni Hills, but never seen flowers in such beautifully expanded form. Thanks for sharing this, and more than that for identification

Mollugu pentaphylla (?) with Selaginella bryopteris (?) :  Attachments (5). 8 posts by 3 authors.

On 14/11/09 in Shamirpet in Rangareddi district of Andhra Pradesh, India.

It was in a forest area near the lake & seen under a rock.

I thought that is Glinus sp with Selaginella bryopteris!!
Thanks, Pankaj ji,
As per Forest Flora of A.P., Mollugu stricta & Mollugu pentaphylla are synonyms:
http://forest.ap.nic.in/Forest%20Flora%20of%20Andhra%20Pradesh/files/ff0800.htm
FOC gives illustration for this along with a few Glinus species:
Mollugu stricta is what I thought fits best for my plant.
I further referred to (Flora of Eastern Ghats: hill ranges of South East India, Volume 3 By T. Pullaiah, K. Sri Ramamurthy)
Sorry, correct spelling has to be Mollugo pentaphylla.
Now it is hard to understand  whether it is S. bryopteris or not
Thanks, ..., I will forward detailed pictures of S. bryopteris separately when processed, for confirmation

There is a related genus- Glinus. Could it be that?

This is not Glinus, I think, the inflorescence of which "in seemingly axillary cymes" and an assorted illustration might help - http://www.efloras.org/object_page.aspx?object_id=51025&flora_id=2.
Basal rosette leaves are like M. nudicaulis Lam. and similar photographs can be found in http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Mollugo_nudicaulis. Yet I think it may be M. stricta L. of FoC or M. pentaphylla L. of FoP or in http://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/230394
looks like a relative of Mollugo... or some of that line nearer to caryophyllales....

etymology :: खेत पापड़ : 3 posts by 2 authors.
I would like to know about the Hindi name खेत पापड़ (khet papar) for Mollugo pentaphylla
खेत = field; पापड़ = thin, crisp cakes made from flour, that serve as an accompaniment to main meal
The plant could be finding fields as a good habitat; but how does पापड़ fit into the common name ?
Please help me in knowing which aspect of the plant is thin, wafer-like in context of Mollugo pentaphylla.
The name is derived from the Sanskrit name पर्पट parpata for several plants  - having the same meaning.
