The term Mahogany is often used loosely for both the species. S.mahogany and S.macrophylla.
We had discussed this earlier long time back. When I had posted pictures of one Swietenia which I thought was S. mahogany but on actual measurements it turned out to be S. macrophylla. Are there any more differences apart from the size of leaflets?
efi thread
Hope to get some inputs from Experts which were not members at that time.

As a layman rather than a botanist I have these few observations.
The long leaved mahogany blooms in march, the spanish one in april at least in bangalore.
The new leaves are greener and so red tinged compared to the spanish one
The macrophylla has lots of fruits but not the spanish one.
The barks looks little different

Photographed today (3.4.15), this tree have a bit longer leaflets than my earlier one, about 3 inches long. This is the first time I see flower and fruit of this species.
very nice
flowers and alongside it a fruit already opened?
so it was from last year and it survived the monsoon and winter and now late spring?
and where is this tree... may i know please?
The tree is in my village, but I didn't notice it before. Yes the fruit seems to have survived all these months from last year.

I am not able to find its Id. Taken at Nalban, Kolkata on 7/4/07. I have this tree also along a few Kolkata roads. I don't any pic. of its flower or fruit
On further study, it appears to be a Spanish Mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni). May somebody confirm?
The leaves definitely appear to be of Mahogany. I have a snap of Sweitenia mahogany with its flowers (will send it as separate attach.) but I have never seen it fruiting in our area (Pune, Maharashtra). I think this tree originally comes from tropical America and West Indies. Other common roadside tree which is planted in Pune and brother of this (Meliaceae family) is Khaya senegalensis or African Mahogany.

Kindly Id this tree (mostly planted) along the fence of a private society at Pune
Date/Time- Dec 2011 and Jan 2012
Height/Length- about 25-30 feet with pink bark
Leaves: when I first saw the tree it had shed all its leaves and the whole bark was looking pink. The very next day it showed new leaves and within 1-2 days the whole tree was green with light green glistening leaves. The leaves seem to appear from the tip of the branches. each has four pairs of leaflets. Slowly the leaves turned to a darker shade and the bark also turned dark
No flowers or fruits seen
