A new species of Sonerila Roxb. (Melastomataceae) from Kerala, India by M. K. RATHEESH NARAYANAN, V. MINI, T. SHAJU, K. A. SUJANA, JAYESH P. JOSEPH, AHMED H. ALFARHAN, M. SIVADASAN (2013)- Phytotaxa Vol 110, no 1-  
Abstract : Sonerila veldkampiana, a new species of Melastomataceae collected from an exposed, high-elevation rocky grassland in Kerala, India is described and illustrated. It resembles S. rotundifolia, but differs in having several important characters like pilose leaf-lamina, terete and glabrous peduncle, inflorescence with 10–35 flowers in branched or unbranched scorpioid cymes, an obscurely ridged hypanthium, long acuminate anthers with a deeply cordate base, and seeds with a sub-excurrent raphe.
 
Two New Species of Sonerila (Melastomataceae) from South India by Roger Lundin† and Bertil by Novon: A Journal for Botanical Nomenclature 19(1):76-79. 2009- 
Abstract : The two new species Sonerila anaimudica Lundin & B. Nordenstam and S. coriacea Lundin & B. Nordenstam, from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, respectively, are recognized in connection with a taxonomic revision of the South Indian species of Sonerila Roxburgh (Melastomataceae). Descriptions, discussions, and illustrations are provided. Both species are endemic to the Western Ghats in South India. Sonerila anaimudica is a small succulent herb, and the usually single terminal flower has very obtuse or even retuse obovate petals with glandular margins. Sonerila coriacea is a somewhat woody succulent herb with a coriaceous layer on the stems, coriaceous leaves, and showy racemose flowers. Both species have restricted distribution and small populations and are regarded as Vulnerable (VU) and Endangered (EN), respectively, based on IUCN Red List criteria.

Abstract: Sonerila sreenarayaniana C.N. Sunil, Naveen Kumar and Rajeev, a new species from Melastomataceae collected from the evergreen forest of Pooyamkutty area of Ernakulam District, Kerala, India is described. The species is allied to S. devicolamensis Nayar but differs from it in having 4- angled stem with densely clothed brown peltate scales, penninerved, glandular bristly, larger leaf lamina and longer petiole, smaller calyx lobes, petals, filaments, anthers and style.

Abstract- A new species of Sonerila Roxburgh (Melastomataceae) is described and illustrated. Sonerila nayarana sp. nov. occurs in the Velliangiri hills, the Western Ghats in the Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu, India. It seems most similar to Sonerila parameswaranii Ravikumar & Lakshmanan, 1999.

Abstract - A new species, Sonerila keralensis, from the Western Ghats of Kerala is described and illustrated. It is allied to S. rheedei differing by having a tuberous root stock, three to seven flowers, and petals with sparsely glandular-hairy margins.
