Is this rotundifolia found commonly in SGNP ? From the last pic, it looks like it grows in open, and appears to remain as a small herb. Dr. Almeida in his 'Flora of Maharashtra', Vol 1 lists 5 species of Triumfetta : 1. T. pilosa 2. T. rhomboidea 3. T. pentandra 4. T. rotundifolia 5. T. annua Am familiar with the first three. While T.pentandra is an annual undershrub, T.rhomboidea & T.pilosa are perennial herbs. Besides other features, Dr. Almeida differntiates the 3 mainly on the morphology of their fruit. - T.pilosa has fruit with hispid bristles. - T.rhomboidea has globose fruit with sharp bristles. - T.pentandra has ovoid fruit with sharp bristles ciliate down one side. Any reasons ? Flora of India has mentioned Triumfetta cana Blume as synomym of T. obliqua Roth. The name T. obliqua was published by Roth in 1821 while T.cana was published by Blume in 1825. If both are same species, following nomenclatural rules earlier name should be the correct name; accordingly it was taken as T. obliqua by Flora of India. However, Plant List and other sources do not consider (probably) these two names belonging to same species, thus consider T.cana as an accepted name but T.obliqua as unresolved name. With the distribution of T.cana as mentioned in Herbarium Catalogue Kew and distribution of T. obliqua in Flora of India I feel that both the names belong to same species, but till it is resolved we may follow Flora of India Thanks a lot, ..., for the clarification. The Plant List ver 1.1 shows Triumfetta tomentosa var. calvescens Franch. is a synonym of Triumfetta cana Blume In view, I think Triumfetta cana Blume is the current accepted name of Triumfetta tomentosa Bojer.
