..., I have no authority to question or validate your ID, but how do you differentiate it with Barringtonia racemosa (L.) Spreng.?

Both are entirely different with respect to leaf shape, venation, inflorescence, petals and fruit. Barringtonia sarcostachys (Blume) Miq. seems not an indigenous species.

Is it similar to B. racemosa ? I have seen one specimen in Howrah Bot. Garden and a few in Andaman (Mt. Harriet entrance).

BARRINGTONIA RACIMOSA: I was observing a particular tree species on the road side of Cooch Behar, for last few years, but I did not know what the species was. But I could make out that few of this species have been planted by forest department. Last month I saw the tree in bloom for the first time. From the shape and colour of the flowers I suspected ( being a non-botanist )the plant to be some species of Barringtonia. A search on Google confirmed it. It is Barringtonia racimosa. It is known as Samudraphala in Sanskrit. Attaching few images of the plant.

Yes, like ... said it is indeed a barringtonia, and just like him I too cant be sure of the classification further... not sure..
