Salvia campanulata from Bhadarwah J&K: Sharing after a long time on the group due to problem in my laptop.
Kindly confirm ID
Bot. name: Salvia campanulata
Family: Lamiaceae
Location: Bhadarwah Valley J&K
Altitude: 2800 m asl
Date: 14th August 2012
It also resemble to Salvia nubicola!
The flowers of S. campanulata are deeper yellow, corolla broader and lips less flaring, leaves ovate-cordate
In S. nubicola flowers are paler, corolla narrower and lips widely separated, leaves hastate-sagittate.
Flowers suggest S. nubicola. I better view of lower leaves should help in settling the ID.
This is what gets non-taxonomists...
when distinction (if any ) is based only on adjectives like...paler, broader, less than, narrower....
what makes such keys difficult to put into action is... what is it that we are comparing since pictures are of one plant... its not like like we are examining herbaria specimen where many specimen sheets would be available?
so what to do?
compare these and enjoy
S. campanulata
S. nubicola

This high herb with beautiful flowers was shot near Budher in Chakrata..
I hope this is rightly identified as Salvia glutinosa...
how pretty
the first one looks like pink birds with slender black beaks peering demon from their perch
lovely but can get pesky weedy if not controlled

... the Himalayan plant (S. gutinosa auct. , Hook.f., non L.) is correctly S. nubicola, differentiated by taller erect habit, thicker leaves and cleft lower lip of corolla clearly seen in your photographs.
Here is excellent comparison.

Thanks ... for your enjoyable inputs..
Thanks ... for exact nomenclature... was not sure therefore, that's why the thumbnails are labelled as S. nubicola...

Looks like Salvia nubicola
... is correct, this is Salvia nubicola. It occurs over a wide altitudinal range and varying habitats, from those with high to low-rainfall. Distributed from Pakistan to Bhutan.
