Two of my observations have been id'd as isodon lophanthoides, I am sure there is a logical explanation or a variation of species... could someone enlighten me about this.... Is there a sub-species of isodon lophanthoides...?? To me the two plants vary in size, leaves and the flowers vary in colour. their streaks/spots and even in the lower lips.... but... What is labeled as Isodon1 was discussed in the thread Isodon2 is also similar to isodon lophanthoides ... perhaps there is some difference between when you identify from books and study plants without flowers. Luckily we saw both on our trip to Chakrata and you must have seen we uploaded them also Your Isodon1 is Plectranthus barbatus. (syn:Coleus barbatus (Andrews) Benth.; Coleus forskohlii (Poir.) I am attaching a close up of the calyx.May I know how did you identify the genus, please. I did not identify the genus by myself sir. ... in an earlier post of the same plant had provided the ID. Heyne's specimen has been collected from 'Baba Budan Hills' which is the current day Bababudangiri in Chikamagalur, a shola grassland area. The altitude is known to affect the size of almost all plants, according to one professor who told me this. This could be the reason for the small size. Unfortunately, I did not collect specimen also. Very interesting, I've not come across! Pl. check Fl China too! Could you please guide me which genus to check specially ? Isodon ?? I checked all Isodons in China but i could not find any image matching and it is difficult for me to go with descriptions. Did not find match with any Labiatae found in the Kathmandu Valley listed according to the Flora of Kathmandu Valley. I think Nepal species are give under Rabdosia as below. Pl. check I tried all Isodon, Rabdosia, Coleus, Plectranthus and some other sp listed in Nepal but no luck. Check only the Rabdosia species which are not available in efi so far. I tried all possibilities! It has been identified as Isodon lophanthoides (Ruch.-Ham. ex D. Don) by Dr. Chunlei from China. Any further opinions ? But I am still confused ... since the flower image does not match with so may images I had clicked of Isodon lophanthoides (Ruch.-Ham. ex D. Don) Ask Dr. Chunlei, if it can be from any of these species. I think Nepal species are give under Rabdosia as below. Pl. check He has already said twice as its ID so I feel awkward to ask again. By the way isn't the petal/corolla pattern looks completely different than the Isodon lophanthoides ? Yes, it looks different. I am afraid it turns out to be new species😂 ! But before that you have to rule out species at http://www.efloras.org/browse.aspx?flora_id=110&start_taxon_id=127871 and there is no shame in holding on to a set of pictures as Dubia like ... taught us until such time that our reading and knowledge catches up with our camera shutters. ... go thru the list on that page link in ... post, take each species and read about it, google it etc etc to find your sp id. if the latest exercise does not yield, let it rest, it will come to us/you It is Isodon lophanthoides ! Has anything changed since last discussion? I have shot few images yesterday. I shall post in few days time. OK. Yes, you seems to be right in view of your post at Isodon lophanthoides (Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don) H.Hara However it has already been identified I am enclosing some fresh images showing purple tint in the petal margins shot recently at the same location as earlier images as promised you earlier. Habit : Wild Isodon lophanthoides var. graciliflorus (Benth.) H.Hara ?? Yes, it appears so, as per Keys in Flora of China. POWO and Catalogue of Life, mention only this variety other than the type variety. But I find a lot of variation in leaves in our posts at Isodon lophanthoides, not only in leaf apex but also in other aspects of the leaves. So in view, I feel we should not segregate our posts based on these keys and keep them as these are now. Flora of Pakistan says, "Although some authors recognize "Plectranthus gerardianus" as a separate species and others recognize it as one of the varieties of Isodon lophanthoides (var. gerardianus (Benth.) Hara), our specimens (with the available material) all seem to be the same taxon." I guess this is different. In that case how do we segregate var. and subsp. of so many different plant sp. listed with accepted names ? By the way this has been validated by expert whose validation we have accepted in many sp.earlier. Fwd: Re: Re: Re: Isodon lophanthoides var. graciliflorus (Benth.) H.Hara ??
