One of the ornamental plants in Mysore city. A hardy shrub. The shrub is also in full bloom nearby my house. The habit is similar to Bougainvillea. In fact from a distance the plant can be easily confused for Bougainvillea. I will upload the photographs in a separate posting, as there is no provision to attach a file to this thread. Sending herewith the photographs of chinese hat (Holmskioldia sanguinea), in full bloom. An ornamental plant, which can be easily confused for Bougainvillea. Place : Mysore city- Bogadi area. Didn't know there is a variety with yellow flowers. Yes Commonly the flowers are reddish. In fact the name sanguinea indicates the colour red The plant List mentions two other synonyms which may be due to colour variation. Needs further exploration.
