Tamil names: நிலக்குமிழ் ; முள்குமிழ் There are similarities in the leaf growth, size; and the pointy branchlets; But the Gmelina I have seen ( Bangalore) has different texture, herbaceaous, somewhat pubescent; leaves are entire, margin sometimes sinuate. This plant leaves are thickly fleshy, smooth, many are three-lobed. Have you seen this type in flowering/ fruit stage ? This is not Gmelina asiatica (for me) as the leaves look quite different I am doubtful too. Please match with my earlier post. I think the posted plant is indeed Gmelina asiatica, as idyed by ... Its leaves are variable in shape and size. FoC describes "...leaf blade ovate to obovate, 3-5(-9) X 2.2-3 (-8.5) cm....margin entire or 3-5-lobed...". a very prickly tree with very small leaves Possibly Gmelina asiatica (family: Lamiaceae, also placed in Verbenaceae) http://www.flowersofindia.in/catalog/slides/Asian%20Bushbeech.html Yes, I agree with ... id....also known as "ladies' nose flower"!! Found in Bangalore university, Bangalore. Looks like Gmelina arborea शिवण Gmelina asiatica The pictures are distant so clear indication about species is difficult. ... suggestion may be correct. flowers in the pics are quite clear - they are a single yellow colour unlike the 2 tones of G. arborea.. Leaves are small and habit is shrubby which is not at all like Gmelina arborea. Often (but not always) this plant is armed and you can see small spines in these pictures. I agree with ... id.. this is not G. arborea.. Gmelina asiatica Gmelina asiatica photographed at my residence on 08.09.11, which was planted by me. Please validate. (if you look into its face down the tube, it has a square outline, because of 4 petals i guess) No doubt about that! Mulkumizhi in Tamil.
