It is an interrupted spike, but the shot, although very beautiful, makes it appear as a continuous spike. Do we re-validate both: posted plant and that at FOI ? I know when you raise some doubt, some thing good comes out. Former has loose distant whorls, smaller bracts barely up to 4 mm long and corolla 6-9 mm longer, the leaves are more sharply toothed typically. C. vulgare has leaves less sharply toothed almost subentire, whorls condensed, bracts 5-10 mm long and corolla 10-15 mm long. The picture dates back to 2005. I was not much curious about plants at that time. Birds, mammals,butterflies....fauna in general.......As you can see it's a picture of a butterfly. Somehow after searching old images matching with some of the newly posted ones by others I thought this to be from Lamiaceae. Obviously no other pictures. Because of the group I now know that it is Clinopodium. Whenever I will get a chance in similar habitat (Rarely one visits the same area that far off from ones native place unless one thinks it's very very extraordinary) I or any other like minded member will surely observe and photograph with searching mind to get more details.
