Clerodendrum indicum:  Just wanted to shared not so good pictures of Clerodendrum indicum.
Also called as tube flower because of its long tubular corolla.
What fascinates me with the whole grouse of Celrodendrums is their pollination mechanism. It’s an well-known fact that almost all of the clerodendrums avoid self-pollination by employing dichogamy (male and female parts of plants mature at different stages) and herkogamy (male and female parts of plants at two different heights). It’s quite interesting to figure out that the tube is so deep that it would require a specialist to pollinate this flower. What if that specialist pollinator is not there?
This species of clerodendrum is not native to India. I am sure this plant must have already been shared on this forum. But I just wanted to put across this with curiosity amd amazement of pollination mechanism specific to Clerodedrum.
i guess plant is native to South-East Asia, and the name indicum stretches to India..
plant is evergreen shrub, with beautiful fragrant white flowers, style longer than stamen i guess..
plant can be used as a ornamental plant, roots are highly medicinal..
NO DOUBT ALL PLANT SPECIES HAS SPECIAL AND AMAZING FEATURES!!!!!!
Oh such a long corolla tube. Which insect might be coming to get the nectar?...I wonder

very nice, ... where exactly was it? is it cultivated or growing wild??? how tall?
its not like you not to give any prelim details
Super shots ..., It is a Indo-Malesian species, widely distributed and cultivated in the warmer parts of the world
Commonly known as "Bowing Lady, India Tubeflower, Sky Rocket, Tubbeflower, Turk's Turbin"
Thank you very much Sir. According to Voigt, Roxburgh and others it is বামনহাটি (BAMUN HATTI) or ব্রাহ্মন পাতা (BRAHMAN-PATTA) in Bengali, and Flora Indica informs, "Found wild from Orissa northward.."
I agree this is not like me who usually gives some info. Because i wished to receive feedback concerning leaves!
This is a woody herb that can take shrubby appearance if left undisturbed. This is wild as well as ornamental, I have seen it along railtracks, paddyfield, village thickets, and in home yard. Unlike the leaves in this set of pictures leaves are usually linear or narrowly lanceolate in wild smaller plant. Flowers are same in wild and cultivated form. You will see many growing near Baruipara Rail Stn (HWH-BDN chord), not necessarily confined only to that place. Haines gave more detail account of this species in his 'Botany of Bihar & Orissa'.
Attached here a few more pictures, one taken today (4.11.14) and others in 2012.

thanks for the details
leaves size i don't worry about
i have shown 2 feet long kadam leaves here several years ago... ... had made the diagnosis... and there was some discussion.
and right now i have a pepper Jaal lonka gaach, its thinking itself  a vine and has leaves double the size of regular lonka gaach that i had sown seeds at the same time and left the two containers on the same windowsill getting the same amount of light and water and kitchen fumes!!!
i just do not  know anymore about the size of leaves..
at bolpur in robi thakur's home's garden there are several examples of similar experiments the family did way back when and some stuff is still surviving and going strong..
Yes Didi, I have seen size variability in KADAM trees. My observation is leaves are twice to thrice times in young trees, in saplings bigger than that, as the trees grow old leaves become smaller.
Thank you, ..., for sharing your observations. Eager to know the size of the leaves in your photographs.
Here is the link to my photos of this plant (bearing narrow leaves)
Thank you very much ..., please spare me a day or two I will give you accurate data. Meanwhile, my guess, and I am not good at all, is around 8 inch in length. Attached here my set of narrow leaved ones, in wild, along rail-tracks. Attachments (4)
As i guessed the leaves are around 8 inches long. Attached here photographs of two leaves, one from basal region and the other from the upper part of the plant. The width shown in the pics are the widest part of the leaves. Attachments (5)

Thank you so much for your efforts. These leaves are up to 3 inches wide while the ones that I had seen here in Mumbai did not go beyond 1 inch in width.
I am seeing this plant in a new light through your photographs.
Yes, ..., no literature I have and no eflora inform that leaves can be so wide. Is this another species?
