Ajuga parviflora Benth., Pl. Asiat. Rar. 1: 59 1830. (Syn: Ajuga depressa Maxim.; Bulga parviflora (Benth.) Kuntze); E. Afghanistan to C. Himalaya as per WCSP; Densely villous plant with much smaller leaves, scarcely exceeding 4 cm, much smaller flowers usually smaller than 8 mm in length. There are no specially coloured floral leaves, the floral clusters occurring in axils of normal leaves, corolla tube slightly longer than calyx, stamens or mostly included.
Perhaps another plant which is not correctly represented at FOI website, where it (or closely similar plant) is displayed as Ajuga lupulina. It must be noted that A. lupulina is a much different plant with coloured (white, yellow or greenish-purple) much larger floral leaves (3.5-5 cm long) that often hide the flowers and flowers are much larger (2-2.5 cm) white with purple veins. And this one even closer home at the base of an Oak. Looks like it belongs to the mint family. Lavandula gibsonii perhaps? Very nice close ups ...: I am always a bit stumped thinking why does one plant need so much hair on its leaves and and a neighbouring plant in the same wild area does not?is there a botanically relevant use of these hairs?
I see these leaves growing out of stone walls, on the ground and on crevices in rocks. The back of the leaf is thick veined and magenta/pink while the upper surface is smooth. Could you please help in identifying this? Unidentified Mcleodganj, Dharamshala, HP About 1700m Larger leaves can grow to be around 6-7 inches I think this is early to say anything... if I am to guess now, ....this may turn out to be Ajuga sp. Thank you ... Even with this start I am unable to advance in my research. I photographed the plant again this morning with a close up. I am attaching them here to see if it makes it any clearer. The top surface is slightly rough to touch, a little like a dog's tongue. Attachments (2). 27-28 January 2017 1800m Above Mcleodganj, Dharamshala, HP 3 images. Ajuga so. Check for A. parviflora or A. bracteosa (now I think, A. integrrima). according to me.. A.parviflora Thank you to ... All the plants I have come across on the slopes here are sessile without any stalks to speak of. Like parviflora, the leaves are purple underneath and the stamens do not protrude from the petals but there is no vertical growth of the plant and the flowers are difficult to even see between the leaves. Perhaps it is a local variation of A. parviflora.
This herb was recorded from Chakrata, please validate or correct the id for this plant.. is this Ajuga parviflora ? I think yes. Very similar to mine from Morni.
