Thanx ...
As the smell of the flower is very rotten -(like Sulphur) -earlier it was known as "Narkya" in Marathi meaning "Hell". But after the discovery of  its anti-carcinogenic properties, its being called "अमृत्या". Unfortunately the local people are uprooting the plant for sale and it is getting extinct.
Lovely information the same thing happened with Taxus the plant is poisonous but when pleople came to know about it anti-cancerous activity they started exploiting it !!!!

Probably, Mappia foetida (Nothapodytes nimmoniana).
It looks like some species of Pavetta.
I agree with ... on Pavetta crassicaulis. Nothapodytes should have been in flowers. I also agree with .. on 'wanting' information..

I think this is Nothapodytes nimmoniana i.e. Narakya.
Leaves are with tiny holes, which probably seen in Narakya only.
Pavetta leaf for comparison.
I think your plant is Nothapodytes nimmoniana but having holes in the leaves is not diagonistic to this plant. These holes may be dure to insect or fungal invasion! Kindly check couple of more photos from the link provided below, an intact plant doesn't have these holes.
http://www.biotik.org/india/species/n/nothnimm/nothnimm_en.html
the leaves are clustered at the end of the branches and are not opposite, so it should be Mappia foetida.
I know this is not a sign for ID, but I said probably seen in Mappia foetida.
Almost 90% of the photoes on your thread also showing this feature. Only tender leaves are not showing. Also one thing is that Branches are having small white dotts which may be absent in Pavetta. Pavetta leaf held against sunlight shows bacterial glands. Which are absent in Mappia foetida.

Mappia foetida or Nothapodytes nimmoniana - confusion:
I have seen members using Nothapodytes nimmoniana (Syn . Mappia foetida) in different posts, while they are two different species as per The Plant List.
As per The Plant List, these are two different accepted species as below:
http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl/record/tro-50249349 (Nothapodytes foetida (Wight) Sleumer Syn: Mappia foetida (Wight) Miers)
http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl/record/tro-50323224 (Nothapodytes nimmoniana (J. Graham) Mabb.)
What's the correct name for the species found in India ?
Is it Mappia foetida or Nothapodytes nimmoniana ?.
May I request somebody to solve the mystery ?
To solve this mystery some one will have to procure paper by Mabberley in Taxon 29: 606. 1980.
This may provide us the real clue. At this stage I have to state just this much
1. In Flora of British India four species of Mappia are described all from Western Peninsula and hills of South India:
Mappia foetida Miers
M. ovata Miers
M. tomentosa Miers
M. oblonga Miers
2. Mappia foetida of Miers is different from Stemonurus foetidus Wight on which combination Nothapodytes foetida (Wight) Sleumer is made
As far as I remember, in 'Flora of India' (BSI), Mappia foetida has been treated under Nothapodytes nimmoniana. But I too believe that these plants need to be carefully worked out once again.

Please find attached herewith the requested paper and It says;
"Nothapodytes foetida (Wight) Sleumer (Icacinaceae) =N. nimmoniana (J. Grah.) Mabberley (Premna nimmoniata J. Grah., Cat. PI. Bombay: 155 (1839))".

Tree for ID : SMP1 15 Dec 2012:
In Mid Dec 2012. I saw a pair of Indian Giant squirrel in Mahabaleshwar.
Trying to find out which tree the pair was relishing on. It was a large tree. The closest picture of the fruits is attached as IMG 0356s.

It looks like Nothapodytes foetida. The pics of the squirrel are beautiful!
Supporting ...
I too agree that this is Nothopodytes.
Now, while looking at The Plant List, I am confused by seeing N. foetida and N. nimmoniana as two different species.
Can someone clarify?
FRI database treat them as synonyms (there is no N. nimmoniana in their list!)
http://www.biotik.org/india/species/n/nothnimm/nothnimm_en.html
This issue has already been discussed a lot.
Finally we have decided to go as per efi site link in the matter:
and as per earlier efi thread: https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!topic/indiantreepix/S30v3EzbuZQ
Does it look like Psychotria similar to ... plant?
It is not Psychotria it looks like Nothapodytes

Lovely images, such captures make identification possible..
Yes, nice pictures!
Very nice. As ... said such detailed photography does make id easier in known cases and possible to do differentiation //going down the key easier in lesser known sampling
May be this thread should be marked as one to look at as an example???
Very good pictures.
A small correction in name. To make the post searchable.

Nothopodyotis nimmoniana possibly!!!
This is Narkya / Ghanera [Nothapodytes nimmoniana]. It was previously called Mappia foetida.
Family: Icacinaeae. i see that not much is written up that defines its tree properly, what a family, though tropical. not much studied. may be not economically important? i wonder. By the way nice diagnosis for such an uncommon specimen. ..., did Dr ALmeida describe it?

Dr. Almeida has in his 'Flora of Maharashtra', Vol. 1 changed it's name to Nothopodytes [not Nothapodytes] oblonga [Miers.] comb. nov.
Frequent at higher altitudes. Have encountered it at Mahabaleshwar, Amboli and Khandala.
A drug extracted from it's bark has anticancerous properties.

Looks matching to my earlier post : but former is a dangling shrub whereas this one is a tall tree.

Pl. check with images at Nothapodytes nimmoniana

Looks matching .... But confused about the height of the tree. It was about 50/60 ft. And the another was like dangling shrub about 9/10 ft. I guess. It is not listed in Nepal also.
Pl. check details and distribution at efi site link.

This tree was seen by the roadside in the Tamhini ghat near Pune, MH in Aug 2019.
Requested to please ID.
Most probably Nothapodytes nimmoniana.

Premna sp?

Ma'am, I hope ..., is correct,

Thanks … This was suggested by a fellow traveller, but there was no smell (foetid) around these flowers, so was doubtful.
Thanks ... for validating it.
thanks, that prompted me to search, because memory can be treacherous sometimes but I was correct in saying Premna sp....  I should have looked it up first....
then I would have been sure, instead of ? marking.
on our own page its indian names include "commonly known asfetid hollystinking tree  etc and in Marathi: narakya
and on our own/same  page synonyms include Premna nimmoniana J.Graham; and Mappia foetida
Donot know why there was not any fetid smell in this case... may be flowers too old? rain or a variety that no body has documented it yet?
something to investigate further, I think. good case
