MY FLORA PICTURE 2013...: Attachments (1).  12 posts by 9 authors.
The year 2013 was full of activities for me, though most of them were restricted to local visits, yet they were very fruitful, adding many new plants to my database..
The year end gave me opportunity to interact with a galaxy of taxonomists from our country at IAAT Conference held at RTGM Nagpur University, Nagpur (Maharashtra), Dec. 27-29, 2013..
Yet the most enjoyable and memorable excursion was a week long visit to Chakrata and nearby areas in the peak of monsoon season, August 08-14, 2013..we were four persons, myself, ..., ... and ..., with ... coming all the way from Ulhasnagar. We were much worried about the climate.. if it started raining heavily we could be room locked for entire trip, ... wanted to see at least two orchids on the trip, otherwise (he said) trip was a waste for him.. amidst worries, leeches, mild showers, mud slipping and sunshine.. we could manage to see a very large number of plants not earlier seen in flowering.. ... could get much more than expected.. about 10 orchid species (4 of them a new addition to his database)...
Here is my flora picture of the year from the tour, showing three orchids and one very beautiful flower Platystemma violoides which looks extraordinarily beautiful to me..
Sorry two orchids in the picture.. one more is Wulfeniopsis amherstiana..
Thanks, ... Such trips are certainly life long memories, which you have brought out superbly.
I feel if one makes such trips regularly, one will stay healthy for life.
Nice to know about yr visit to Nagpur (My Home town) for IAAT conference.....
Rainy season in the Himalaya is full of flowers but one has to get wet to see them. Valley of flowers unfolds its petal beauties mainly in rainy season, similar is the case with temperate habitats like Chakrata. I believe Chakrata area has many interesting species, all seen through your pics. I remember one, Erodium cicutarium (Geraniaceae) which I did not found anywhere else in Uttarakhand.
Memories associated with plant hunting makes them special as aptly shown here.
My hearty appreciations for your earnest desire to see and shoot plant species.
