North Bengal wildflower-ID Request-1 - 6May09 SJ : Attachments (1).  9 posts by 4 authors.
now that all previous posts from North Bengal have been identified, I am greedily posting more for identification. I have called this Gloxinia simply because it resembles that and my guess is not based on any knowledge.
Thanks once again to all for their helpful inputs and expert IDs.
I guess this is Common Limnophila i.e. limnophila heterphylla
Limnophila heterophylla appears appears to be a different plant as per link
It appears to me like Chirita utricifolia as per 'Concise Flowers of Himalayas' from Gloxinia family (Gesneriaceae). I didn't find any net link though.
Here is one giving lot of Chirita species pix alphabetically: http://www.gesneriads.ca/genchiri.htm
Thank you, ... Chirita utricifolio certainly looks like it though I couldnt find the exact matching flower.
I think ... is right. Another Himalayan species Chirita pumila has lance-shaped leaves, which doesn't agree with ... picture.
A picture of Chirita urticifolia (by the way, urticifolia means nettle-like leaves)
http://www.asianflora.com/Gesneriaceae/Chirita-urticifolia.htm
Your hunch about the family was right! As ... identified, Chirita uritcifolia belongs to Gloxinia family (Gesneriaceae)
Thanks for the interesting meaning of urticifolia and confirmation of ... id.
Both the pictures in your and ... links are similar to my photograph but not exact in terms of the coloration. Cannt really tell about the structure etc. as this is the only photo I have.
Shall I wait for some more suggestions or freeze the ID as Chirita urticifolia?
Thank you all once again.
Botanist friends tell me that colors are not very important in flower identification (although I find it a bit hard to digest). So, I think it can be safely frozen to Chirita urticifolia.

A scandent plant seen by roadside having lots of sticky tomentum on the leaves and bracts
Location-Lohit district of AP.
Check Paulownia fortunei.
efi page on Paulownia fortunei ?
It is certainly not Paulownia fortunei which is a fast growing tree introduced in India.
Haven't come across this plant.
But could it be Bignoniaceae/ Acanthaceae?
Gesneriaceae ??
To me looks different from Gesneriaceae
A species of Henckelia (Gesneriaceae)
Tried all possibilities but could not get exact match.
Ultimately deformed Henckelia urticifolia??

Yes, ... I also feel it is closest to Henckelia urticifolia (Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don) A.Dietr as per comparative images at Henckelia
