The creeper is now fruiting. Attaching pics of the same. I hope it helps to Id. The pods were heavily attracted by ants. 8 Dec 2011 Attaching pics of seeds and dry pod. the pod is 4cms in length and has turned brown black. seeds are black, smooth, squarish 4mm by 2mm with white hilum Can we conclude that this is Vigna mungo ? common name Black gram or urad bean Please validate Yes, it looks like Vigna mungo (Black gram) to me too. Date/Time-1 Nov 2011 Location-Place, Altitude, GPS-Pune Habitat- Garden/ Urban/ Wild/ Type-Wild growing along a well Plant Habit-Tree/ Shrub/ Climber/ Herb- creeper with hair on stems Leaves Type/ Shape/ Size- green with three leaflets I think I may be wrong Flowers Size/ Colour/ Calyx/ Bracts- yellow flower about 6-8mm across with I think 4 unequal petals Fruits Type/ Shape/ Size Seeds- not seen I think it is a species of Vigna of Leguminosae family. Can it be Vigna radiata var. sublobata as leaflets are lobed. I have not seen fruits as yet but the stem does not show brownish hair but light hair. This match with a legume known as Urad grown in hills of Uttarakhand and Himachal I do not think that this is V. radiata. Please check Vigna mungo. I could see Vignam mungo posted by ... on Nov 13. Very nice pictures. From the description I have understood that this plant has brown silky hair. The plant that I have posted does not have brown silky hair instead has white hair which are also sparse on the stem in comparison. I have taken fresh pictures today after 15 days which still shows white sparse hair and prostrate growth attaching the same. Also a similar creeper is growing 2 feet away which I will be posting in another thread but shows the following differences Height The creeper in this thread is growing almost prostrate whereas the other is a climber has reached almost 5 feet and above Hairs This creeper has sparse white hair . The other creeper has brown dense hair Leaves Trifolate leaves in both. Dimensions of leaves. this creeper leaves are 7.5 cms in length by 5.5 to 6 cms with soft white short hair whereas in the other climber the leaves are max 11.5 cms by 8.5 cms. with longer denser hair Flower This creeper 6-8mm diameter whereas the other creeper almost 1cm to 1.2cm morphologically otherwise appear same. The other creeper has bloomed much later than this creeper Pods No pods on both the creepers as yet Does Vigna mungo show this variation? Finally could get pics of the pod and seeds today. Looking at the seeds I think this is Vigna Mungo. And today the hair do look brown and not pale as I had first seen. Dimensions of pod 3cms by 0.5 cms seeds black 3mm by 2mm Kindly validate Yes Vigna mungo
