Lidder Valley calling 2 posts by 2 authors.
Today (7.10.09) while having stroll of my neighbourhood, I saw profusely flowering Trifolium repens, and thought how come ... missed on one of the commonest herbs in Kashmir valley.
May be you have the photograph of it. It is similar to Trifolium pratense you uploaded a few days back, but with smaller leaves and white flowers (another less common species T. fragiferum also has white flowers but inflated fruiting head; in T. repens fruiting head is not swollen).
Yes ...,
I will check for it and if I have I will post it.

flowers? color? what is found in abundance in Ireland canada and rest of the north american continent allover is this chevron (the while line design ) on the green leaf, ir the RED CLOVER since its pink flowers look red at the end of their freshly opened state... some flowers can be pink at bottom white on top..
itsTrifolium repens
whats in your fingers is a 3 leaf clover, usual ...
If you search its bound to show /give you a four leaf one...
which I found in your pictures I circled it in your top picture
Andrew Weil the alternative medicine guru has a nice story of looking for a four leaf clover .. and idea of expecting to find it versus not expecting to find it... or was it Deepak Chopra who told us the story.. I forget... it only matters that if you expect good things to happen they will.
Four leaf clover is very sought after in songs, life, daydreams and in general public sentiment in Ireland and north america... google it and you'll be that much richer in folklore and ideas...
If you find a few pluck them and put them in books to keep for ever...

good luck
... this is a story for your story thread that's why I copied it to you
Very very interesting Didi, thank you very much for forwarding the thread.
But, how can I knit a story out of it? I haven't seen any clover yet! If there had been such stories or belief relating to rain lilies! I have seen rain lilies having variable number of perianth segments, a common phenomenon.
Thank you ... My wife who grew up in the hills remembers looking for four-leaf clovers as a child. She used to put them in between the pages of her books too. May be I'll look for them with my daughter soon.
The ones we have with the white Vs have white flowers. I found one today (25.3.15). Please advise.
nice white flower
googling for trifolium repens also shows white flowers
so, its the same plant
red clover white clover same difference
may be taxonomists have further subspecies named,. i dont know
good luck finding the four leaf clovers they will start turning up as you look
am sure your daughter will remember it as her story all her life
...
we have clover in may areas of grasses particularly in maidan etc
once you expect it you'll see
and stories pop out of my memory bank when i see something related
right from top of my head cant say i know of any such for rain lilies yet.
But who knows you may now know someone who knows ....
stories are meant to be passed along  ;)
and to keep indexing stories just add a link to this thread in your story thread is what I meant originally...

Ok Didi, I will link this thread to mine.
Thank you ... I will send pictures when we find the lucky charms.
I got a couple of close ups to share. Attachments (2)
very nice, and thanks ... looks good and good for the data base to have such nice clearly depicted features
I took some more photos of the Trifolium rapens and am sharing them here; 4 images.
First two pictures are really superb.
Great close ups. in one it sure reminds one of the great water lilies. ma nature is wonderful.. to both large and small flowers.
Very good photographs.
Common in subHimalayas as well as in USA at many places
the last picture points to its family relations....
it underscores its origins in the Fabaceae group
what a complete set

Nepali Name: सेतो बेहुली Seto Behuli
I think this MUST be T.repens.  In the UK we have about 21 species of Trifolium - T.repens is one of the commonest but care is needed
to check it is not mistaken for similar species.

Flora of Kathmandu Valley also record T.pratense but the  Enumeration is uncertain about that record.
Flowers of Himalaya says 'White or Dutch Clover' is found in grassy places @ 1500-2500m throughout the Himalaya.
Stewart records it in Kashmir & Ladakh to 3600m.
I note that the Annotated Checklist of Nepal Flora has Trifolium pratense as doubtful in Nepal - probably mistaken for a form of
