Desmodium species, most probably D. multiflorum. http://www.efloras.org/object_page.aspx?object_id=116705&flora_id=2
Thank you ... for the lead.
Instead of D. multiflorum, would it be D. laxiflorum? (http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200012103)
I am sorry I didnt check whether the stamens were di/monadelphous!
I went mad by running the key several times and I finally gave it up for another day then I thought I will try with you people.

The id of this plant has been confirmed as Desmodium laxiflorum DC. of Leguminosae. Again, Thanks to ... for the lead and Thanks to ... for the confirmation.

Could not find a match as per comparative images at Desmodium

Pl. check Desmodium gangeticum (L.) DC. , a highly variable species.

I guess it is not matching since
since it is 1- foliate and elevation also not matching.

You are right. May some species not available in efi site so far.

Desmodium laxiflorum DC
Loc.: Upper Siang distt., Arunachal Pradesh (ca 700msl)
Date: October, 2005

Thanks ..., you helped me identify this plant from Chakrata our trip. By the way plant depicted on FOI seems to be some thing different.
In light of photograph at FOI and comments by ... in our thread, I think this plant should be Desmodium multiflorum (syn: D. floribundum). See photographs of fruit uploaded by ... : efi thread
Looks different from other images and details at Desmodium multiflorum DC.
I think more closer to Desmodium laxiflorum as initially ided by ...

A herb found in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh - 150-200 m altitude.
Found blooming in October end.
Leaves appear to be trifoliate.
It is obviously from Fabaceae (Pea family)
Sorry for the quality of the images.
Please identify

Sorry, the pics and subject have been wrongly named "Manipur". It should have been Aruncahal.

Desmodium laxiflorum DC. ??
Desmodium laxiflorum is what I also thought, but I am not sure.
Let us wait for opinion from other members.

To me this plant is looking more robust, with thicker leaflet stalks etc, than the plant seen in Dinesh's post here.
According Eflora of China, lateral veins 9-12
The leaves of my plant appear to agree with this. But the leaves in ... plant appear to have more number of lateral veins.
..., your plant has relatively stouter stems than Desmodium laxiflorum that we see in northern Western Ghats; also the inflorescence is not lax.
And leaves as you have noted.
Could be Uraria rufescens ...
Thanks ..., However, the shape of the leaflets of this plant doesn't agree with the description of Uraria rufescens. The leaflets of Uraria rufescens are rounded at tip. Here they are clearly pointed.

The images of Desmodium laxiflorum (supposedly) posted here:
http://ppbc.iplant.cn/tu/3792743 appear to agree very well with my images. But then the apparent disagreement with the images from Maharashtra is puzzling.
Looking at various images at GBIF, what I gather is that the specimens of Desmodium laxiflorum from Africa and Western Ghats seem to have larger leaves (compared with the inflorescence). Specimens from SE Asia do have smaller leaves. They agree more with my plant. Two examples, one from Africa, one from Malaysia, are here:
Also specimens from Africa do have leaves with larger number of nerves than what Flora of China mentions. All this is consistent with the fact that one synonym is Desmodium macrophyllum (meaning large leaves).
So, my conclusion is that my plant is Desmodium laxiflorum and there is variation between plants found in Western Ghats and NE India.
Liked your conclusion, ...
Other than some slight variations in some aspects, the "colour scheme" of flower reminds of D. laxiflorum.
This colour scheme is "sometimes" found in D.heterocarpon, but the arrangement of flowers is clearly different there.
Thank you ... My initial guess seems to be correct.
Thanks, ... for the pictures and references.  Its difficult to properly see the leaf in great detail from the herbarium specimen from Malaysia
but I was able to count the veins... they are about 5 could be 6. your specimen has 5-6. flower color can always vary based on pH and metal ion content of the soil. I think you are on the correct tract: D. laxiflorum
