Tree For ID : Nasik : 050514 : AK-10 : 14 posts by 5 authors. Attachments (5 + 1).
Tree seen today (5.5.14) at a cultivated garden where a nature lover has planted different rare trees.
I was told 'Gulal' used in Pooja is made from this tree.
Tiny white flowers.
The name given for this tree was Patangi.
Dalbergia lanceolaria subsp. paniculata (Roxb.) Thoth.  ?
Agree with ...
I think Dalbergia melanoxylon
The tree is armed with stout spines, so tend to agree with ... This should be D.melanoxylon.
Ooops, I missed the spines.  ... must be right. I suppose we can't rely on local names.
Patangi is D.lanceolaria var paniculata.
Was the look of the tree overall thorny. How was the bark Overall appearance shrubby with multiple stems or a single trunk with dark bark?
Thanks for identifying this small tree.
It was a young one, 4-5 feet high.
This has been planted by a nature lover, in an open plot in his society.
He has been planting many rare trees....in the last 15 years, he has planted around 70,000 trees in Nasik.
I was introduced to him through ..., from our group.
I found one more picture showing the stems and dark bark.
Adding this picture for ... as he was inquiring about the stems and dark bark.
